This is true. It was mostly to pander to disgruntled working class and disaffected German men who came out of the first World War shocked and upset by the loss. With that said however, Hitler did adamantly refer to himself as a Socialist, he just disavowed the Marxist interpretation of it. He generally agreed with the principals of state centralization acting as the arbiter for the "people" or "the public." German industry was widely nationalized before and during the war. Social welfare programs were bolstered and put in place to encourage Germans to have more children. German strength thru Joy program nationalized all workers unions and attempted to arbitrate between workers and business owners. This program was a massive failure however.

He loathed asset speculation and globalization (rightly so). He believed if left unchecked it could lead to the destruction of nation states and leave people at the mercy of a cosmopolitan, faceless global elite. He was right about that last part. That's what hurts the most. His methods of change were incredibly cruel but he was right about a lot of the problems we are facing now. Think of Hitlers brand of socialism as a race based, state planned and heavily regimented quasi capitalist state wherein everything operates under the umbrella of the centralized machine. It was meant to benefit ethnic Germans first and foremost. Anyone else was viewed as lesser in the eyes of the state. Not a bad ideology imo. It's the constant war I find contemptible.

It's rhetoric. Socialism was taken as a term and concept from socialists to mean opposition to the jewish capital class and not just the capital class. National socialism is bog standard ethnonationalism where you take shit from second class citizens and exploit them or just remove and replace them. There is no free market way to do that it requires the state. What supports the state though? The economic elite. They don't lose control, Hitler and nazism was funded and directed by the local economic elite. It sold out the public sector to the private sector and dissolved unions, killing union socialists in some cases. It's an aesthetic, like how American fascists often adopt the aesthetics of freedom, but in practice they're pretty much ethnonationalist Muslims that are cool with smoking weed.
