What's the point in going off to the front lines when you'll just get mowed down by a drone? It's basically a cheat code for warfare.

War has been dominated by artillery for the past 150 years. Where have you been?

That's the point. You're getting sent out to the front lines to get mowed down. It's a sacrifice.

We're in the transitional phase of warfare right now, similar to WW1 when human wave attacks and formation fighting were still being used as the standard despite the invention of machine guns.
That said there's no point in going off to any front lines, ever. Not a single government entity in the world today has a cause worth throwing your life away for.

Drones are a whole new level though since the operator isn't exposing himself and they can sneak up on people with 0 risk to anybody, plus they are impossible to take down for the enemy.

Should have just stopped there and then it would be applicable to every single period in history

There are hundreds of thousands of men on a line stretching hundreds of kilometers. You see a few tik tok videos of drones and think that means they are substitute for all warfare? You are retarded

I promise you, you have bias because those are the only videos that get posted. Ukrainian drone operator even said that drones are overrated recently in an article. Also these soldiers have very little modern equipment and nor air support. For the American military it would be unthinkable to have soldiers just dig fox holes with no support and sitting there to get bombed by Chinese drones.

Same question could be asked with introduction of machine guns, artillery or carpet bombing. It's just endless race between sword and shield.
In the end you need people on the ground because any human law reaches only as far as barrel of his gun, and extraction of anything from land, be it resources or people living there, requires some structures and laws with consequences for not abiding them. It's cheaper than trying to enforce it with drone strikes.

>what is rocket artillery
Besides you could have seen vids of drones trying to tail drones to see where they return back for battery replacement like year ago. Before introduction of fiber controlled drones armies tried to locate operators nests with radiolocation or by seeking antennas.
So yeah, it's still the same principle but instead of seeking heads poking from trenches within hundreds of meters with your rifle you seek human activity within dozen of kilometers with your drone.

Whether it's recorded or not doesn't make it any better or worse. It's still a kill. Soldiers were dying in agony in every war, be it having your lung mauled with mace, being tortured for information, burning alive in a tank or bleeding out after losing foot on mine. Today you can just see it clearly yourself straight from fronline instead of maybe having pics made by war journalists after battle.
