Depends on the school. I got kind of an insider look at Wisconsin (Big 10) frat culture. Some were pretty ok, some were pretty gay and proto-globohomo. Weird fucking scene.
15ish years later I dated a later-20's former sorority girl from Missouri (SEC) and got the lowdown on a lot of sorority shit. Mother of god, do not let your daughters anywhere near that stuff. Cluster B disorder factory. Sexual abuse factory.
I don't buy that they are keys to the upper class. I haven't seen it. Most of the former frat people I know are more or less just living the same lives as the rest of us. Them being keys to significant upward mobility depends on two things: boomers/old millennials in upper level positions being able AND willing to help out their fellow white man. Both of those being true at the same time are increasingly rare.
Tbh I've found playing on certain sports teams to be a bigger indication of someone's upward mobility and ability to have male camaraderie. Which says a lot about how greekshit has fallen. It's integral to college predation and faggotry meant to fuck over young people, you think they're going to actually help you out? Jeez.
