Israel is going to build a third temple. This temple is said to resemble the tabernacle—the design God gave to Moses (Exodus 25:8-9). The original purpose of the tabernacle was for God to dwell among His people and for them to approach Him. However, after Jesus came and died for our sins, He became the true and final temple (John 2:19-21). This means no third physical temple is necessary because Jesus fulfilled its purpose. A third temple resembling the tabernacle, standing on the holy mount next to a mosque, would be the ultimate symbol of rejection of Christ and is closely linked to the prophecy of the abomination of desolation.
