As somebody who has had this happen to me when I was depressed for like 2 years this will destroy your life. You become a recluse and you feel like it's so much effort to dig yourself out of the hole. You lose progress you had made before and it feels like it's not worth it to start it up again.

So I'm curious how many of you have no hobbies outside of work/education? How many of you feel like you are getting enough socialization?

Try to have at least one physical, one intellectual, and one artistic hobby.

I don't enjoy anything and therefore just getting out to do stuff takes a tremendous mental effort because I have to do it for the sake of doing it, not because I derive any pleasure from it. I've noticed this too, people spend all of their time outside of work jacking off then wonder why they're depressed. Especially in america where your job is supposed to be your life and personality, and time outside of the job is for catching up on new trends so you don't feel alienated during cooler talk.
If that's all there is to life for most people, things make a lot more sense.
>hobbies, socialization?
I haven't spoken to anyone outside of my household and whenever I get lonely or paranoid I just work on my hobbies even harder. Yesterday I went twelve straight hours without eating, not slept for 24, and just got up after my 6 hour sleep, gonna do it again.

Lots of art museums have lessons for shit like pottery, stenciling, etc. it's a fun way to learn and meet people and nobody cares if you're shit there.

You were neglected as a child and you were never allowed to develop any constructive hobbies or interests before the age of 7, when it's most crucial. I'm going to guess you were raised by a single mother who got bored of you when you started developing any amount of personal will, or close enough with a distant father who did nothing but sit on his ass in front of the tv all day.

I agree with this. I've been gardening (vegetables and fruits in the back yard) for at least a decade now and it keeps me sane. I guess this technically counts as physical but I want to get into a sport - maybe tennis like I played in high school. my intellectual hobby is reading both fiction and non-fiction. Artistic, I've been thinking of practicing writing mainly fiction. This thread is a good kick in my butt - thanks anon.

I don't think I'm super skilled or anything, but I've been spending months developing one scale and the general instrumental profile and it finally clicked because listening back on it I can start piecing together details about the character and story listening back on it.

Not every hobby has to turn into a money-making thing anon. It’s nice if it does, nobody's gonna complain about getting paid for what they enjoy, but that’s not the main goal for everyone. Sometimes you just do shit because it feels good to make something, even if no one ever sees it or cares.
And about thinking you’re ass at what you do. Everyone starts there. No one pops out making god-tier stuff from day one. If you're really into it, just keep grinding in the background, improve for yourself. You don’t have to show anything until you feel ready. Eventually you might get to a point where you're proud enough to put it out there. Or maybe not, and that’s fine too.

A whitepill for you is that it doesn't matter if you have no hobbies, you can still develop them. Most people who were great at their hobbies at school age don't do them anymore anyway or they just do it for fun. There's no pressure to be amazing at anything it's just fun to get better for yourself, meet people, become more well rounded.

And for dating the fact that you're doing stuff and putting in effort to learn things will be hot. It doesn't matter if you're a master at it, just the fact that you aren't idle will be attractive. So, there's no need to feel pressure or regret. Find something and try it.

I have hobbies but little time to work on them. I have kids and a nagging wife and a job I hate that I cant leave due to its security. Between by shit job and my nagging wife, I barely have energy anymore to work on my hobbies.

I was trying to get into gym but for someone who's been a lazy piece of shit it's a difficult hobby to build.
I like the idea of camping but I'm poor as fuck and have no gear so until I buy some stuff gradually (a tent, cooking gear, basis stuff really) best I can do is a small campfire for two hours when the weather is good.
I did notice that lack of hobby destroys my life and I got so desperate that I even installed Windows and some video games to just have anything to do for fun, but I don't really wanna waste my life on video games. I'd prefer something outdoors or even indoors but something that builds real skills.

I would appreciate recs for things that have growth potential but very little, if any, entry costs.

Camping can be pretty to get into you don't need to buy cooking stuff unless you're planning on being back country for multiple days.

All you need is a tent, a sleeping bag, and a tent mattress. Go somewhere simple, either a short hike or directly to a camping ground and just try sleeping outside. Don't thinking you need to trek days into the wilderness to get into camping.

Other easy stuff to get into:
>Table Tennis
If you have a table tennis club near you these are great. The people are very friendly and always excited to teach somebody new. Usually pretty cheap to join
>Rock climbing/bouldering club
Same as above
>Any martial arts
Going to be super welcoming people. Less daunting than going to the gym. Going to the gym you usually aren't meeting people so it can feel a bit awkward. Martial arts places people enjoy helping new people.
>Book club
if you enjoy reading but never get to talk about it with people
>Art stuff
Check your local art museums or universities if they have courses for adults for fun

I grow vegetables as a hobby. Just made dinner and everything I had on my plate except the meat, I grew myself. I do a bit of mountain biking and cycling too.

Shame those who work. It’s for the underclasses.

Think. Don’t work.

Fuck man I’d be fine with bar hopping and top golf. Most of my friends I’d thought I’d have forever either got rich quick and became Type A personalities and half the friends couldn’t afford to hang with them. The other half didn’t achieve what they wanted and became anti-social. I feel like this is my dating life too. They’re either Type A psychos or anti-social deadbeats. I’m 36 now and this happened a couple of years ago, so it feels too late to get a new friend group or friends in general. When my dad passed like 500 friends showed up to his funeral and that’s what I’m most jealous of and ashamed I won’t be able to match.
I think maybe lawyers or doctors can have an easier time making friends later in life with drinking and stuff. When I lived in Florida all the boomers had tons of friends and buddies.
Everybody now is either broken or going 100 mph.

>have at least one physical, one intellectual, and one artistic hobby.
I don't have the money for any hobbies, unless dreaming of suicide counts. I live in a slum to get by and that means zero sleep so I cannot do intellectual hobbies. I have no will to live or motivation to do anything so artistic ones are out.
