Libs have zero issue with communism per se. They don't like soviet and third world versions of communism, which is understandable, but they don't mind communist ideology on its own terms. They can only oppose soviet communism by framing it as "red fascism".

They hate fascism ideologically; they don't hate communism ideologically, only its particular implementations. And they reconcile this by framing communism as just a version of fascism and totalitarianism when there are pretty stark differences actually. It's actually pretty similar how commies lump all countries with private equity into a barely meaningful "capitalist" category
