It's hard to explain, you had to be part of the scene to understand. Nowadays all that shit's been corrected really. That 'cart' has a SD card in it you plug into your USB and you just copy over the ROMs. Then you boot your DS and just select and play the games. There's no configuration anymore. In the beginning there was, you had to patch your own ROMs depending on what cart you were using, some worked, some didn't, some stopped working after a certain date or firmware update... So you don't really need to worry about it anymore. Plus it's cheap so wtv. DSI though. DSLITE is gay

Use the cart I showed you, you can find it in the states I'm sure. Yes, there's no updates or configuration or anything. Remember, DS doesn't update anymore so everything is final version. Don't need that. The cart itself is like a seperate computer, it runs several emulators on it. GBA, SNES, NES, SEGA SMS, SEGA GENESIS and NEOGEO. You just plug the roms in. And if it's missing the emulator you can also just toss it in there. (Emulators themselves are also ROMs). Get it ? It tricks the DS into thinking you're about to load a game, but the ROM itself is the operating system. From there you select and play the games. So it's a shell within a shell

I bought a mini snes years ago which came preloaded with a bunch of games. You can hack them though and they’re capable of running gameboy, N64 and ps1 roms.
Ended up filling this mini snes with about 600 games and it plugs straight into a tv.

A game can always be rereleased (if the demand is high enough) digitally. Now they could either give you the option to purchase a digital license, or they could bundle it with some sort of retro game subscription model. There is always potential for monetization when it comes to old games. let's also note that the univeristy system, especially in america, was getting flooded with kids desperate to make everyone else believe that they were the computer science programmers everyone heard about in the news even though they had no interest in it and couldn't hack it because they didn't give a fuck about tech or computer-anything. so they took every weasely shortcut and office politics advantage they could and did shit like asset flips and never learning game engines' inner workings so they were using surface level tools and so every game used the same shit and they all began to feel the same

I refuse to give Nintendo money when they have been going after people for banal shit like romhacks and mods for YEARS and when their newest Donkey Kong game runs like complete shit on their own console. It's fucking 480p upscaled with FSR to 1080p, blurry as shit, a godzillion frames of input latency and doesn't even run at 30fps stable most of the time. A game that looks like it came out during the Gamecube era has no excuse to perform this poorly.
