but I'd say rape and murder are equally evil, and on the same level as slavery. depriving somebody of their freedom is essentially depriving them of life.

Murder is by definition unjustified killing. There's degrees of guilt but murder is unequivocally bad. And so long as there are evil women there is justified rape.

Murder is obviously worse because you can still live your life after being raped. Rape is probably still the 2nd or 3rd worst crime you can do against another individual though.
There are cases for just killing but I think murder has an inherent connotation of being unjust.
