The local Druze are staunch allies to them, and they're standing up for their brethren as part of the cost of admission to maintain that alliance. (Also the reason why the Golan Heights Druze were never expelled after '67 in spite of their traditional indifference/hostility.)

Plus it leaves the doors open for political integration in the future, whether that's out-and-out annexation (unlikely to happen in the near future), or something more hands-off like a protectorate/proxy state.
