i was wondering why women read more and i think i know a part of why that is. its become an aesthetic and a performative activity. this aesthetic has very little appeal to most men. but by browsing these video's comments you can tell that these girls and women spend more time browsing tiktoks about reading and literature and browsing books and bookstores to add to their collection than they spend actually reading. that black girl's videos are so carefully crafted.. im sure she has even convinced herself that 'this is who she truly is' but its bullshit because nobody lives like this.. people don't journal at coffee shops, take public transportation, walk around their room annotating their books and lighting a dozen candles in the middle of the day. im sure her channel is going to do really well. can't really criticize them either because these are all 'good' things afterall.

contrived personalities is probably my biggest pet peeve. and it has become the absolute most dominant way to move through society now.

It sucks because I think Iโ€™d really enjoy it if I were able to, but alas I never learned how. Do you think there are any resources that are out there that i could find that could teach me how to read? If I were able to read, then I think Iโ€™d have a much better life.

but how are they able to take it this far? like watching videos like this all day knowing they are watching someone who is even faker than them.

i suspect some of them have fully convinced themselves that this is what a 'reader' is. i mean that concept doesn't apply to 90% of people who do read.. but the ones who it does apply to look like picrel

i hate that this lives in my head so rent free. i mean it gives me a fucking headache

Yep. Even /pol/ circulates an essential reading list that is missing Xenophon's Hellenica, the continuation of The Peloponnesian War - which of course /pol/ recommends.

No one ever mentions the error, even though you must notice if you're paying attention.

100% not true. honestly in the 20s-60s, especially when marxism introduced philosophical concepts to the average person and literary rates were getting quite high.. this was a primary, affordable, and enjoyable way to spend one's time.

reading kind declined when tv started getting affordable and popular and then tanked when social media took off.. so now anyone who does.. well fuckign anything can only do it if they film themselves doing it. that goes for helping stray animals, helping the homeless, philosophy, reading and really anything that is isolated and often thankless but people consider 'good'

nobody is going to plant a tree post-covid unless they can post about it online

I found booktok just looking for reviews and commentary on my favorite books. They just filled a niche that publisher jews were happy to have filled and since zoomers are eunuchs that are horrified of seeing sexual women, these women are able to be fed into their feeds by the algorithm with no pushback.

i 100% agree. i actually thought just having a well-worn book collection in my living room was cringe.. that was 5 years ago. i thought 'who would even care about this? if i saw this in someone's living room i wouldn't really care. so do i have it here just for me? are these trophies of some kind?'
thats when i donated 60% of them and boxed the rest and moved to ereader.
(now i think that whole process was itself pretentious that i would care that much to destroy my whole collection.. though im mostly happy i done away with it all evne if the reasoning was a bit silly. i just hate pretentious and contrived behavior)

saves a shit ton of money on libgen too.

Depends. My sister for example reads lots of books, but knows how to not speak about this constantly. She is self-aware enough to know that performing a basic human function doesn't make you special. Those whores, however, lack such wisdom. I suppose after a certain age their physical attractiveness wears out and they need to feel special in a different way.

Reading isn't performative, books are. They serve as an interior design accessory and "bragging rights" to show off to others how much you read. In 2025 there is no practical reason not to use an ereader and benefit from having basically an instant access to almost any book ever published in english language.

Bro, my wife fucking loathes these women. Anytime any of her friends bring them up, she's basically pointing out the same shit this thread is. Her and I have more books than the cunt in the OP, but neither of us feel the need to broadcast it out to the world. We just enjoy reading for the fun of it. It's something we do for ourselves, not for anyone else.

>>510785903
I hate fuckers that use books like that as well. Our bookshelves and bookcases are split between our room and our office, simply because those two rooms are the most practical spots for them. We keep one small bookcase out in the living room for anything we're currently reading or for books we haven't integrated into the rest of the collection yet. The both of us agree on the e-reader part, though. More and more of our reading is done on those these days, especially after the birth of our first child. I'll always have a fondness for the look, the feel and the smell of a physical book, but the ability to basically have an entire library right at my fingertips is unparalleled when it comes to convenience.
