Impossible. Too many toxicities lurk. I can't think of a time when man started as one, there were always groups at first. If I'm correct, it doesn't mean the potential for individuality wasn't always there. If you haven't already, maybe read The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind by Julian Jaynes.
