>former colony that became an independent power surpassing its former motherland
>thalassocracy, its strenght largely lies in naval power projection
>run by greedy semitic merchants
>sacrifice children to Moloch or some other semitic deity idk
>corrupt senate sometimes works against the nations' interest for short term monetary gain
>its army, mainly composed of shitskinned mercenaries, requires an unholy amount of resources to mantain but still can barely edge out a win against much smaller powers
>said army also often gets bogged down in guerrilla wars
>brown mercenaries and slaves occasionally chimpout
I mean, the United States isn't in the best shape rn. Pic unrelated.

Too decentralized without modern technology, communication, and military systems. It could exist today, easily, but that is now how the cookie crumbled for those niggers.

Carthage was protected by desert and water. Also controlled many areas that were only semi arid. They just had to maintain their navy. Not as good of a position as America but good enough for their time period until the Romans surpassed them. Carthage could have defeated Rome if they weren't so dysfunctional.

It triggers my autism that they have those unconnected cities along the coast instead of just asserting control over the whole thing and connecting it all.

I mean it was ancient North Africa. There was just nothing there. The little blue semi-circles are probably just the maximum range that it was feasible to grow crops and carry them back to the city, beyond which point the land was just an uninhabited wilderness again.

Italy bro. Do you know more about Carthaginian history? Most of what I can find involves wars with Romans and a few scant bits about how they lived. I think there is a language barrier of information they are keeping from the English speaking public. Hannibal is over glorified and his abuse of his men is overlooked. I know the Romans hated them and some of what they wrote is slander but still. There is a famous Italian silent movie about Carthage. I saw bits of it and wondered how much of it was based on historical fact. It looked highly detailed and complex information was used for the historical research. That or someone wrote a very good book about a believable dead culture and made it into a movie.

Romans took over and built roads between the cities and patrolled them through deserts and started settlements farther into the interior. Carthaginians were just eking it out, establishing population centers in North Africa along the coast except for the area around Carthage and on islands and in Europe. That is where they really spread out in the surrounding countryside.

This map only shows Tunisia being green. Compare this with topographical maps and rain maps and it overlaps with greener flat areas.

There is actually no evidence this is true at all. Almost every single set of human remains found and genetically tested from the Carthaginian era comes back as a mix of Aegean-Sicilian with virtually no Levantine descended genetics, and very little North African genetics.

Its not clear if the original Phoenician colonizers were just culturally Phoenician but actually already not ethnically Phoenician; or the number of Levantine colonizers was extremely small and started mixing with the rest of the colony almost immediately.

Carthage had Levantine culture, but almost none of the genetic, read into that what you will because the scientific community doesnt really know what to think about it yet lol.

The famous Latin made bust widely believed to be Hannibal of Carthage doesnt look Semitic either for what its worth
