Both European socialists and opportunists in Africa wanted independence right away in the middle of the cold war without a gradual transition period where these new countries build up a civil service and national army as India had done. Ostensibly because they believed this to be a conspiracy to keep them a colony indefinitely. The result was decades of war and instability that basically continues to this day.

Literally 100s of millions of Africans live lives in poverty, countless die pointlessly of easily cured infectious disease, a good number in war, countless women and girls are raped, AIDs is epidemic, all because of this naivety.
