Your guess is as good as mine. Other Americans have told me I'm too small/underweight when I'm a 140lbs athletic guy. Interestingly I'm built like my grandparents/great-grandparents who were Finnish or Italian. We have the same problem in Canada. I think its because as colonists we ate large meals for generations due to heavy work (eg clearing land, building, mining, farming) but now people are very sedentary and its been normalised to eat a lot.
I actually get food shamed when I go out to eat for not eating as much as other people.
We also tend to be beer drinkers more than wine which is almost double the calories. The average fat tradie here is slamming a 6 to 12 pack of beer with an entire pizza and bag of cheetos for dinner.
