Treating the root cause is difficult for both the patient and the doctor, I think you are vastly underestimating the amount of people who simply want a magic pill to solve their problems; as well as the amount of doctors who want a simple binary decision in the office.

I personally know not-dumb people who won’t even TRY to address root causes if their meds work; even if they want to complain constantly about medical costs when the potential fixes are either free or considerably cheaper.
