It really isn't usually about how much you make, it is how good you are with your money. Yes, you need a base amount. but there are many many things one can do to stretch a dollar out outside of basic needs.

There's two sides to the equation.
Most people only think about pay unless they've been forced to live poor for a while.

The only really thing Americans have to slave away for is to have a roof over their heads.
Everything else is negotiable in necessity or price.
But housing is literally the one single thing this fake economy has been designed to prevent the average american from truly owning.

Thru a mix of timing/good luck and saving my ass off in my twenties, I own my house free and clear. And while I still have to pay property taxes, I really have zero obligations to work full time.
Utilities, food, and auto expenses are my only overhead and I have no other loans either.
I work 30 hrs a week, which gives me health insurance and its more than enough to pay for my bills.
In fact, I'm married with a kid, and my wife stays home., but I'm still able to pay for everything on a part time salary.
I'm home more and just dont have to stress about things.

Its hard, but find a way and pay off the house and then you never have to work full time if you live semi-frugally.
