I honestly think that the reason why we'll catch their attention is because they'll find the American flag some where in space and they'll go to Earth searching for that symbol. If alien's ARE real, that's what they probably already do. They probably saw the American flag on the moon and came to Earth looking for that flag.

One other thing is all those NASA satellites out there like the Voyager 1.
