That quote is ten years old and was in the era of Windows 7, so it made sense to say something like that.
In the current era of Windows, which wants to install a HR manager on your PC and have you pay out the ass for the privilege, it makes a lot less sense.

I didn't pay for windows 10. It's unlocked and I cleaned it up. Never had an error or a problem using it. People who say it's horrible are either retarded faggots or people who jerk their small dicks to all the CP they have downloaded(which would also explain all the fat fuck nonces on here gooning to the thought the release of the Epstein files). You're all pedos and troons. Go back to pretending to be a woman and some hacker man on arch and stfu already. If some people prefer it and think it's not compromised (top fucking kek, it's your hardware you dumb niggers, but Linux is as fucked as any other OS barring the great TempleOS) you're a retarded dipshit.

the simple answer is that Linux isn't good and never was. It's a niche which a bunch of jobless retards who live in their basement try to push as the next holy grail for humanity, but once you actually go down to using it not as an OS but as a tool to progress with your actual life - it's absolute trash.

It's same as comparing a 3d-printed gun to a glock. Can you 3d-print a gun? Sure. Will it work? Only if you put enough effort into it? Is it freedom affirming? Yes.
But when put into a real death-or-life fight, will you chose it over a glock? No.

because people don't make (or update) software for Debian. because anything apart from Ubuntu or Mint is too hard for your average npc. because Ubuntu and Mint are fucking crashing more than Windows. because Arch is lego for autistic adults that think they're smart (protip: you're NOT). because Fedora (and some other versions) are corporate slop anyway (and please, don't use those hats. please.) because almost every piece of software is fucking shit anyway, so people just use something that won't give them too much of a headache. because people that are really working with tech just use either Windows or Linux whenever it is more convenient for the task at hand, because being a purist is dumb. because even Steam crashes when you use it in the most user-friendly Linux versions, which is unbelievably retarded.

The Linux console has been ahead of your trashy Windows at least 30 years. At one point Microsoft had to create "PowerShell" because the advantage that a Linux shell had over Windows was too obvious. It doesn't take a 3 digit IQ use a shell. Besides, Linux desktop environments are as good as your shiny Windows and the console is only for expert level stuff, you can manage your system from the GUI if you are a boomer who cannot remember ls or cd.

Iโ€™m a frequent Linux user and I just bought a MacBook. I couldnโ€™t figure out how to change the time zone manually after unchecking the automatic option. I hit the dropdown for locations, and it only showed those in my time zone. It turns out that you can just type any city on earth and it will set your time zone to that of the location you wrote: no dropdown or searching for pre-defined options necessary. I have such Stockholm syndrome from Win/Linux that I didnโ€™t even imagine it could be that convenient.
Thatโ€™s why normalcattle will never switch: they just want the thing to take care of everything for them.

Path of least resistance. Most people simply don't know anything about computers and just want something that works out of the box, so they go to the nearest store and buy whatever the vendor tells them to buy.
Asking random joe to format his drive and install another OS on their newly bought computer is like asking same random joe to change the engine of his newly bought car.

It's not that it can't. The amount of steps required to make the software work correctly is not worth the time for 99,99% of people who own a PC. This is for most of Linux. The people who use Linux host servers or are programmers. There is no reason to use Linux for anything else really, and it's just a hassle. Most Linux users are using it because it thinks it makes them sound cool. They are just tremendous faggots.

Just give me two or three actual reasons why I should switch, instead of the usual schizo babble.
I tried Mint for about two hours. I stopped the first time I had to interact with "the console". It's not fucking 1990 anymore. I plan on switching to Linux but so far it's rather annoying than beneficial.
The only real benefit I recognize so far is the fact that you don't need an anti-virus software running constantly in the background.

Video editing I could see with how gay adobe is on linux but music? Linux is way better than windows has ever been for music production for the way it addresses USB devices alone. It's obviously not as good for software compatibility as Mac but if we're talking linux vs windows it's not even close.

Bingo. It's this. Most people have a computer and will use it for nothing but browsing the Internet and writing a document or two. My corporate IT guy brother has given our boomer mother laptops that were destined for the scrap pile, which all run some flavor of linux, and she can't tell the difference. All she has to do is know which icons to click to get a browser with a search bar.

I remember my first time using KDE and all files/folders opened with a single click, so I was right off the bat accidentally opening stuff I just wanted to move around or select.

It's the sort of thing that just leaves you flabbergasted. How could someone be so fucking stupid that they think this is the better way of doing things? Then it gets worse and you find them defending the utter retardation they've come up with and it takes 10 years for whatever stupid shit they cobbled together to finally get torn down and replaced by something that works. Gnome in particular is bad for that. I think there was a time (or maybe it's even still like this) where you couldn't touch anything on the desktop. You couldn't view any files there, everything was hidden by default, because apparently, some typical low IQ retard programmer felt that the desktop ought to be clean and everyone is just "doing it wrong"

e.g.
>Having icons on the desktop is bad for general file organization because you're not taking advantage of dedicated folders like Pictures, Videos, Documents [...]

this kind of retarded shit is replete throughout linux. "I know better than you about how you want to use your computer". Ironically many linux retard devs have gone full circle to acting more like microsoft than even microsoft does.

Iโ€™d just like to interject for a moment. What youโ€™re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as Iโ€™ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machineโ€™s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

It's great getting rid of all that crap on linux

but in exchange you get even more crap to deal with and more bullshit causing headaches. It takes 10 seconds to uninstall, delete, or disable 99% of microsoft's garbage, and hours upon hours to solve the problems you run into on linux (if you can even solve them)

For example I've got some retarded "update now" nagging bullshit in my current KDE install and no clear way to tell it to fuck off. I'm just permanently stuck with it like this unless I waste at least 30 minutes of my time researching how to tell KDE to fuck off with their update notifications. That's just how linux always is. Meanwhile on windows I can practically just accidentally find the off button for most of their retard shit.

The big corporations sent trannies into FOSS projects to destroy them from within using CoC (Code of Conduct). Open Source used to be extremely apolitical but then the tranny army showed up right around the time corporations like Microsoft decided to "embrace" FOSS.
Coincidence? We all know there's no such thing. Big corporations saw open source as a threat for a while, then they realized if they could get their agents to seize control, they could direct the projects in whatever direction they wanted. Don't like it? Well, there's a CoC violation somewhere with your name on it, even if they have to dig into your third grade yearbook to find it.

Getting someone who isn't already sort of tuned to trying out new things to switch to even mint just isn't going to happen. It only frustrates my in the case of my parents because they pay hundreds of dollars for cable for almost no reason. Everyone else i just learned to stay happy that they outright refuse to even try because it means there's less cat and mouse for me on certain things and I don't have people asking me inane questions that they could search for. They don't have the facilities to play around with shit on a computer doing something they don't fully understand and spending a day and a half unfucking their computer and coming out more knowledgeable on the other side

There needs to be a convenient alternative. I mostly use a computer to look at the internet, play videos, and play games. Linux is too fragmented, if I ask three different people to recommend a flavour of Linux, I'll get three different answers, all of which will involve jumping through some hoops to get things even vaguely working. If this steam os thing becomes compatible with most modern games, that'll take care of 90% of PC users, but there's always going to be some hurdle for everyone else.

Learning terminal commands is one thing.
First you have to learn how much you are being raped by proprietary softwares you are using.
Most people don't care about it. But when you do and find out you have full control over your life, data and your device, you will never use them again.
It will automatically motivate you learn commands amongst other things. And believe me, you don't even have to "learn" linux commands these days. Most of it is GUI and automated.

I've been thinking about it for a long time, but the horror stories about each new version of windows have been unfounded for me. windows 98 onwards were supposed to be the devil incarnate, but they all worked for me. I was told not to install a pentium 3 processor because of the backdoors. I recently got a new computer and installed windows 11 on it, half expecting to go back to windows 10 or make the move to linux, but it's been fine. I ran the iso through some debloating script, and I haven't been hounded by the adverts, candy crush and ai nonsense I was expecting. I'll probably continue to use windows until I'm forced to pay for it, then move to linux whether the situation has improved or not.

Now that proton exists you can run a massive amount of games "natively" in linux. There are very few modern games that straight up don't work using proton and most of them are the multiplayer portion because of specific anticheat software. It's worth trying and at the very least as there's a large amount of user reviews and info the state of specific games on proton's website.

Use what ever you like to use. Preferably decide on your OS by thinking of what software you use. Some things might not work on Linux that would work on Windows or Mac.

But after saying that, Linux has become quite nice to use and it does have lot of things that Windows or Mac can't do as nicely - if you're also willing to learn to use the console/terminal or spend some time look into some available software. Of course it's not always nice that there are a shit on of different distros with their different peculiarities and each autistic nerd is telling you to use different distro. Start with just one popular one and you'll most likely get something that works.

Many games already work in Linux with Proton quite well and the support is most likely just getting better. You decide what happens on your computer, when updates get installed, when computer is restarted and how you want to customize your system. No ads, no shitty one drive, no big corpo deciding what you can or can't do on your system.

Some times life gets better once you spend a little time to learn something new, even if at first you might not like it. If you're not an absolute retard, you'll manage.

literally the only thing that loonix cant do at this point is VR stuff which, even then some pretty good strides have been made recently for certain headsets, and slop like valorant/league that need EAC. I think there was some movement recently with proton about being able to work around it.
People give windows every bit of leeway when it comes to it completely shitting itsself on an update or not working with certain games because you have a logitech mouse plugged in when you start the game but if you have to add an extra click to play a game just fine everyone pisses and shits themselves about how unintuative it is when, its just something that youre not used too yet.

I've encountered that before, does it just work on top of a normal linux install? I'm not bothered about multiplayer and I don't use steam. The games I've been playing recently are either gold, platinum, or works out of the box, so I'll give it a further look. The linux file systems also seem better, I've been using stablebit drivepool and snapraid in windows, I think linux might do that natively.

This is the dumbest fag post of all time, probably from somebody associated with Apple because not even a Microsoft fag could be this gay. Modern Linux distros take 5 mins to install and have GUI's comparable to anything paid. Terminals are all based on logic so if you can't figure out how to use one you're probably just a fucking retard niglet.

>this quote has aged poorly
It really hasn't. The problem has always been that Windows is less annoying to configure. Windows is complete aneurism-inducing diarrhea to configure, but Linux is just worse in this aspect.

When configured, I believe Linux shows the good sides. If you never have to configure a damn thing, great. Problem is that if you never configure anything, your choice of OS is completely irrelevant as long as you're not choosing something like gentoo that forces you to configure things. If you're never configuring anything, why the hell aren't you using Linux? What are you afraid of?

True, but maaaybe some others might not work either. Most likely some 70-90% of modern games should work very well though (even some older ones if you use something like Wine), especially if there's no anti cheat. So if you're not into the multiplayer games that use anti cheat, you might not need to be to worried about the games not working on your penguin machine. This situation could still get better if the developers start to see more users on Linux.

Windows is going down the shitter for sure. Now more than ever before. There's one thing that shows exactly where they went wrong years ago. The movement away from the control panel way of organizing things for a non-technical users was a nightmare in design philosophy. Trying to idiot proof the computer just meant idiots can't find the correct features. I think it's objectively an incorrect way of doing things.

I find myself using the command line more now on Windows for no other reason than the fact it has become a disorganized and dysfunctional piece of garbage. They are genuinely just shitting all over completely functional features for no real reason.

Problem as I see it is that multiple linux distros aren't immune to this shit either. These environments become bloated messes because there's always someone asking for an unnecessary feature, the unnecessary bloat gets added, and now you can't remove the bloat because so many trash programs depend on the bloat. It's to the point where it was named Windows 10 instead of 9 to safeguard all the sacred spaghetti code relics.

it's absolutely true
it precisely dates from the codes of conduct, in the late naughts
looney troons started requesting inclusion into projects, mostly as "maintainers" but also as "coders", and to be treated nice even when they screwed up
thing is they screw up all the time, because looney troons are completely incompetent and lazy, so smeared everything with shit from their axe wound/cloaca
which discouraged decent people
enshitification ensued, and is still doing its bidding a decade and a half later

pic related: "gwyn" ciesla
that vile, lazy, crossdressing faggot pretends to be "maintainer" in fedora, but is so lazy and incompetent he made inkscape unusable for about a year and a half, in that distro (it's barely usable as well since last upgrade: copy/paste can take a dozen seconds, lol)
of course, he was too busy organizing aurora, IL fag's parade
he also pretends to be "wife" and "mother" (he rapes kids, no doubt)
and he even testified to his local senate, or something, claiming he was rejected from job offers because he was a faggot in a dress
hey, "gwyn": wake up!
if you're rejected, it's first and foremost because it's fucking blatant you're a lazy incompetent pedofag, is all
you prbly also reek like shit, but it's not like it's gonna bother streetshitting monkeys in the industry much, lol

Troubleshooting on Linux is far easier on Linux because there is at least an error to clue you in. On windows it just won't work mysteriously and you won't even have a place to start.

However if an app or website doesn't work for linux users or doesn't work without a tweak it's a minority of users. If there's a problem for windows users it could put them out of business if allowed to persist.

Davinci Resolve replaces both Premiere and AfterEffects, is a pay-once own-forever software, and works on Linux. You can also try the free version, which has almost all features. If you're a casual, the free version is all you need. Has cloud features, but doesn't require the cloud. Does not require always-on Internet connection. And it's better than the alternatives. Many Premiere users export to Resolve for coloring. All other features are at parity, so it's a superior product. The only problem is reach. Premere is the default. But it shouldn't be.

absolutely
a neighbor of mine, senior dev in a big ass business, got his job outsourced to romania (close enough to india, funnily enough, since gyponians are just traveling jeets: they offered to ship him there, at a quarter of the pay, lol): went to buy an agricultural market with the unemployment money instead, lol
a cousin of mine, PhD in CS and researcher, in a big ass business as well, is basically left to play as he wants, without much if any practical application: he successfully demoed very famous tech like 15 years before some gafa started pretending they invented it, only for his bosses to tell it was great, but would be too hard to implement and would interest no one (not being more specific, because no dox plox), so he's now basically waiting for retirement, playing with things he likes while knowing they'll never be put to use

Always been true.
If most people did not need to update their browser since it was not supported or their computer did not get slow, they would never even think about the Operating system.

It's why most people just buy whatever Mac or Apple device there is as all they care about is "Does it have my program that I use" and that's about it.

And lets not forget the current day ZoomZooms don't know SHIT about computers
Windows? All they know is Meme's about Windows.

>The amount of steps required to make the software work correctly is not worth the time for 99,99% of people who own a PC
It's not just the software problem though. Music/sound production is an absolute hell-scape of subscriptions, licenses and lock-ins. That kind of aggressive monetisation just does not work in the Linux landscape.
This is Linux's problem. It shuns license heavy programs/industries, so they won't come to Linux, but can't provide the same level of alternative.

>On windows it just won't work mysteriously and you won't even have a place to start.

In corporations major issues on Window computers have aren't worth the time to troubleshoot anymore, you're better off re-imaging a computer having it shipped the next day or spinning up a new VM
The people paying the bills for Windows just don't care about paying for troubleshooting when everything is on the cloud and there's zero chance of losing data. They will expect home PC to be the same eventually as your computer just becomes a DaaS that simply connects to a VM

This is one of the many reasons Windows is so garbage now for home use, it's backend is built off the same spaghetti code of 30 years ago

I wonder if Russia will ever roll out its own Version of Linux or something close to that.
They seem to have smart people, and that alone would get them more money is their small villages and keep them online being a code maintainer.

The thing is going forward, most software just wants something to run on.
And most people don't really give a fuck about what's under the hood or "It's Values" - Fucking QUACKS ruin everything good.

Fuck it.
More shit breaks not my problem.
I go outside and have a life.
All this tech shit is just there to HOPEFULLY make your life better.
If I have to fuck with it?
It's not making my life better is it?
So let them destroy it.
China will just come in and suck up the power vacuum.

And man, did these troons destroy open source.
Nobody even wants to be on their boards or teams anymore.
That's how bad it is now.

Just had a fun one there myself. I'm more versed in Linux but Windows is what my current company uses (A lot of their hires are nepo so I think they chose Windows because like you said, everything THINKS they know Windows).
Took right around 2 weeks to find that a Windows 11 update fucked the registry values on half the devices. That's a lot of down time for a supposedly easy to work with system that forced an update because the end users have little to no say in when/how the products they paid for update.

I've never heard of the 2nd thing or had any issue copying files.

Windows software installation is like 3 clicks and you're done, it's easier.

I can tell you don't have real privacy requirements. You believe what they say in the TOS, when they can change that at any moment, and do all sorts of things behind the scenes to spy on users.
Look up how Google and Apple both deceived users about location tracking privacy.
Apple has floated a system for client-side scanning of contraband information which they will report to HQ and sent to the Feds. It was quashed due to outrage, but only temporarily.
Windows Recall remembers everything you do. Microsoft is also a proud member of PRISM and works openly with the intelligence community. You'd have to be stupid not to think Tab A isn't going to be silently pushed into Slot A.

If you have real privacy requirements, use Linux. If you're too stupid to use Linux, use Apple. Those are your two choices.

>linux is shit

I switched to Naboro OS after only running windows. Reason being:

1. Windows blows mega donkey cock. If they could stop spying on all of my shit with bloat services in the background, and stop with the DEI bullshit fag UI stuff, and actually provided real settings that could disable all the stuff that a power-user would want without having to mess with editing kernel shit... Then I would use windows.

2. My computer specs are from 2016 or so, still works fine. I7700K, 16 gb DDR4 and gtx 1070. --> apparantly this shit is outdated for windows 11, dont recall if it was the CPU but my computer is not supported for this. Loads of good hardware is not supported.

So the alternative is for me to throw this computer away, sell it or whatever and buy a new one so i can suck more bill gates cock and get "personalized ads" as this faggot spies on my shit. OR... I can just move to linux, which I had dreamed of for years because I hate windows and their buggy shit.

End result:
I had a spare AMD XT 5700 - that i got from a pal. Installed that shit, installed Naboro OS, the latest official version. And with very few quirks this OS is by far the best OS I have had, maybe besides Windows 7 back in the day, although that was slow as shit.

You run every game through steam - they got the proton layer with unbelievably good support. Valheim, Arma Reforger, Squad, all of these games run amazing. Only fag games like Battlefield 2042 dont run due to battleeye faggery.

>"BUHHH ANON I NEED TO RUN EXCEL OR WHATEVER..."
So ? Literally run it in a wrapper. "Bottles" is one alternative. I run windows apps in it all the time.

Well of course. I certainly wouldn't waste my time building a flavor when there are thousands of variations already.
I just mean in big corporate settings where you don't need 60 gigs of bloatware and unnecessary spyware on your servers, it's better to just get linux as barebones as possible and just have it serve the purpose it's meant to serve. For a typical consumer...they'd rather have Mac where they get what Apple says they're allowed to get, and they can't make any changes, but they can use Google, Youtube, and Tiktok all day long.

No the obvious choice for normies is Apple. MacOS is BSD, which is a good operating system. The only real problem I have with it, besides the license, is being locked into the Apple ecosystem. But on all other measures it's vastly superior to Windows.

If I have to spend a single second opening up the command terminal over the course of owning Linux over a 10-year period, I will never switch to Linux. For myself and the vast majority of people, computers are are not even tools we use, but the toolbox for our tools (programs). If interacting with the toolbox involves anything more than
>open toolbox
>use tools until finished with session
>close toolbox
Then we're not going to use it. I'm not making an appeal to stupidity here. I have a set number of hours in my day that I can do things, many of which are taken up by obligations. If I use my computer, the time I spend interacting with the computer itself to use the programs on it needs to approach zero seconds.

Linux currently cannot offer such unobtrusive convenience, so it will never become more popular.

I imagine most normies could do everythibg they need to ob a linux os but dont have the patience to learn it, even just the basics. Im not tech savy at all but there was a time where i had a dual boot ubuntu windows laptop.

Put this in perspective, most people dont even run a fucking adblocker while using youtube.

I used to hate AMD, and I still sort of do because their drivers are shit on windows. But AMD is the best for linux. Because AMD graphics drivers are built into the linux kernel which is holy fucking based.

Privacy settings that block my OS from sending telemetry reports to HQ aren't third party apps. Insofar as people are pushed to use third party apps to set rational privacy settings for their OS, it's proof that something has gone very very wrong.

i dont care if the installation is 15 hours. Usability is all for me. At work my fucking windows machine constantly is bogged down by various anti-virus programs, and it crashes applications a lot. Its just a buggy experience caused by overbloat.

Visual studio and coding and all of this is a mess and it wastes so much time for me. Teams and outlook constantly freeze and stop loading in messages from the server due to bloat.

I kid you not when I say that I on average restart my work laptop 2 times a day to get my daily shit running. -Also i know its not a windows issue necessarily, but excel is a piece of shit too in how it operates.

All of this shit was built decades ago, they still use the same functions and calls, just a new UI. Microsoft really dont care. Its a fucking garbage company. They should get out of the OS space, because they do not know what they are doing outside of the GUI - and they admit to not caring one bit about performance or efficiency.

Task manager was written back in the 90s btw, still using the same code from back then, code that was rushed one morning if i recall correctly. Just an example.

best post in the thread. if my life span was 200 years i might start using linux again.
I have used this trash as a professional for years ok. little faggots who install a browser and then go parade on the internet how linux is great really have no idea what theyre talking about. most faggots will put a custom background to their console and pretend like theyre elite hackers, its so fucking stupid.

the main problem is that every fucking program is a "quirky chungus" straight from reddit. there are no standards. everything is an amalgamation of shit. there is no grand design, its accumulated feces pressed together. there isnt even a proper image editing tool. there is no good music player, nothing. really just the browser works and thats all. everything that is good is a program that already exists on windows. mac is much more powerful and better than linux on almost all fronts.

the only thing linux is good at is running a server with minimum waste. its a multi user OS, not some windows alternative.
