It's common here to not understand the scale of that war at all.
The whole frontline is 2.5k km. And you have to place positions along all of it - that's the second line which is 100k troops/2.5k km = 40 troops per km average. Then you need to rotate and supply them, which is the third line of 200k. And the active frontline are ones who actually do the suicide assaults in few hot spots - those poor orcs on bikes you see on videos. They do it daily in tiny groups of merely a dozen troops, if they get killed fast the command tries another spot, if they manage to hold to a position the next group is dispatched there.

Some more numbers: the whole battle for Bakhmut, which was the bloodiest of the whole war, took the whole year when it was the only time both sides had same amount of arty, and was done solely by Wagner convicts, resulted only in 20k casualties. The whole Kursk incursion, which took almost a year, was less than 10k total casualties.
