Most places in america especially that are rural are nice. Its safe, peaceful, theres bathrooms and rest stops everywhere, showers, free water, camping spots in the forest, keep a gun ideally a 12ga shotgun and a pocket pistol on you and you're good.
Cooking you could just get away with propane stove. Maybe install a 400W lightweight solar panel if you really need to charge a laptop or phone but that would cost more
Though refrigeration would be a challenge. You can keep a cooler good for a week but then you'll have to go to the store.
Being homeless isn't free living though you still need money for certain things, its just that living in a car is a little more expensive but if you have a couple thousand its a 1000x better quality of life being in nature than camping in a city.
