In light of recent photos and videos drawing public attention to Shahed drone production, a common question has emerged: Why can’t Ukraine simply strike the facility? Hit the archer, not the arrow! The answer, however, is more complicated than it seems. Here are a few key points:
https://x.com/Tatarigami_UA/status/1947027230573601162
2/ The drone production site is located more than 1,200 kilometers from Ukrainian territory. It's not a modest workshop - the facility occupies roughly 160,000 square meters, with additional ongoing expansion.
3/ Any drone capable of reaching that distance must carry a significant fuel load, which in turn limits its payload capacity. In short, drones that can fly that far typically can't deliver the kind of payload needed to inflict serious or lasting damage to a facility that big
4/ Ideally, targets like this should be neutralized through carpet bombing or multiple missile strikes aimed at production bottlenecks. At present, Ukraine lacks the capacity to conduct such operations, though that may change as its missile capabilities evolve.
5/ An internal sabotage or “spiderweb-style” operation targeting key components of the facility is theoretically possible. However, such attacks alone are unlikely to halt production permanently. At best, they would cause temporary disruption and are difficult to replicate again
6/ The phrase “kill the archer, not the arrow” may sound compelling when used for bombers, but not so much for the production facility. In addition to the production, Russia has dispersed launch sites - rudimentary setups often consist of dirt roads long enough to launch a drone.
7/ Striking launch areas would have little effect unless Ukraine could hit multiple sites consistently, day after day. Storage sites near the launch areas could be targeted, but even a successful strike would likely destroy only a portion of the drones stockpiled for a single day
>part 1
>>510962726>In light of recent photos and videos drawing public attention to Shahed drone production, a common question has emerged: Why can’t Ukraine simply strike the facility? Hit the archer, not the arrow! The answer, however, is more complicated than it seems. Here are a few key points:8/ The task isn’t impossible, and Ukraine may yet find a way to destroy the facility, but its difficulty is often underestimated, especially by those who believe a single successful strike would be enough to “fix it.” Unfortunately, the reality is far more complicated
https://x.com/Tatarigami_UA/status/1947027263528329515
9/ A good question has been raised: how many Tomahawk missiles would it take to neutralize such facility? Considering their payload and the number of targets, you'd likely need about one missile per small facility and two to three for larger ones - totaling around 20 to 25 missiles. Since these are cruise missiles, relatively slow and flying a long distance, you'd probably want to triple that number to account for potential interceptions. The strike should also be coordinated with drones and decoys to overwhelm enemy air defenses. In other words, Ukraine needs A LOT for such scenario, but it’s doable

>>510960866 (OP)MOSCOW, July 14. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump needs to direct his treats at the Kiev regime if he really wants to end the conflict in Ukraine, a senior Russian lawmaker told TASS.
The US leader warned earlier that he would impose secondary sanctions on Russia and its trade partners if no deal on Ukraine is reached in about 50 days. Apart from that, Trump said that the US and NATO agreed that the alliance would buy US weapons, including Patriot systems, to supply them to Ukraine. Washington plans to supply 17 such systems.
"If Trump really wants progress in the Ukrainian settlement, he should shake his fist at the Zelensky regime rather than threaten Russia with secondary sanctions," said Leonid Slutsky, chairman of the international committee of the Russian State Duma, or lower house of parliament, and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR).
He recalled that the Russian side has repeatedly stated its readiness to end the conflict. "All of Moscow’s proposals are on the table. We are waiting for the Ukrainian side to agree on the date for the third round of the Istanbul-2 talks," he emphasized.

Drone Debris Sparks Fires in Russia's Rostov Region, Governor Says
Falling drone debris ignited the roof of a railway station in the settlement of Kamensolomni in Russia's Rostov region during a widespread aerial assault on Monday, the region's acting governor reported. The station, described as a major railway hub for the southern route and home to the region's largest railcar depot, was one of several areas targeted.
Acting Governor Yuri Slyusar confirmed the attack, stating that air defense systems were active over multiple locations, including Novoshakhtinsk, Shakhty, and Novocherkassk, as the military worked to repel the attack. He stated that while the drones over Kamensolomni were shot down, the resulting debris caused the fire at the station.
Three employees were evacuated from the station's dispatch center, and there were no preliminary reports of injuries.
In the same settlement, a flower shop also caught fire, which local sources attributed to damage from air defense activity. Fire and rescue services were dispatched to both locations. The attacks caused significant disruptions to train services in the Rostov area.

Ukraine's Ivano-Frankivsk Hit by 'Most Large-Scale Attack' of War, Mayor Says
Russian forces unleashed a major combined missile and drone attack on the western Ukrainian city of Ivano-Frankivsk and its surrounding region early Monday, in what the city's mayor described as the most significant assault on the area since the start of the full-scale invasion.
Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv reported that the city was targeted by a wave of both missiles and Shahed-type drones. He stated that civilian infrastructure was damaged in at least three villages within the Ivano-Frankivsk community.
"This was the most large-scale attack since the beginning of the full-scale invasion," Martsinkiv said in a video statement. He confirmed there were casualties, describing them as being in a "mild condition," and noted that authorities were still assessing the full extent of the damage across the affected villages.
According to Ukraine's State Emergency Service (DSNS), the attack resulted in four injuries, including one child. Emergency crews responded to fires in garages, vehicles, and a two-story residential building in one of the impacted villages.
Air alerts were sounded three times overnight in the region, with Ukraine's Air Force warning of a "high-speed target" moving towards the city shortly before explosions were reported around 6:00 AM local time. Martsinkiv praised the work of air defense units, emergency services, and medics in responding to the attack.

‘Treated like animals’: deported Ukrainians protest dire conditions at Georgia-Russia border
1/?
Dozens of Ukrainian citizens, deported by Russia and stranded in a squalid basement at the Verkhny Lars border crossing, staged a protest on Sunday demanding basic human dignities, with one detainee alleging he was beaten by Georgian guards.[1][2][3] Chanting that they were "tired of being treated like animals," about 70 people emerged from their detention area to demand access to clean water, food, and sanitation.
The group of approximately 90 Ukrainians, including seven women, has been held for weeks in the basement of the unfinished "Dariali" terminal after being denied entry into Georgia. They describe inhumane conditions, with fewer than 20 beds for everyone, forcing them to sleep in shifts. Detainees, who include former prisoners from Russian-occupied territories as well as people with HIV, tuberculosis, and other disabilities, say they are not being fed regularly or receiving medical care.
"We can't take it anymore. They hold us here for weeks," protesters said, according to the Ukrainian human rights group "Protection of Ukrainian Prisoners." "We're only let outside for a few minutes. There isn't enough food, there is no water. We asked to at least go to the Duty-Free shop to buy water — they refused." A key demand of the protest was to separate healthy individuals from those with tuberculosis, who are all currently housed together in the damp, unventilated room.
Tensions reportedly escalated during the protest. An eyewitness told the ASTRA press agency that he saw Georgian border guards take one protester to a separate room, handcuff, and beat him. In a separate, desperate act of protest, another man reportedly cut his own neck to draw attention to the conditions.
>>5109673442/2
The Georgian interior ministry has defended its refusal to admit the group, citing "state security interests." In a statement, the ministry claimed that most of the individuals have criminal records for serious offenses, confirmed by release papers from Russian prisons. However, volunteers and the detainees themselves insist that some among them have no criminal history. Many were reportedly deported from occupied territories for refusing to accept Russian passports. Their situation is complicated by a lack of travel documents and the closure of a previous transit route through Moldova since early July.
Ukrainian officials are engaged in the issue. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that diplomats are working to organize the group's transit back to Ukraine. First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, accused Russia of weaponizing deportation and urged Moscow to send the citizens directly to the Ukrainian border rather than to third countries.

More than 50 trains delayed in Russia's Rostov region after drone attack, says railways operator
More than 50 trains have been delayed in Russia's southern Rostov region after a drone attack caused a fire at the Kamensolomni railway station, the state-owned Russian Railways operator said on Monday.
Debris from a downed drone struck a railway infrastructure facility at the station, causing a fire that required a specialized firefighting train to extinguish. While local authorities stated there were no casualties, the incident led to significant service disruptions.
Initially, 26 passenger trains were reported to be running behind schedule by 13 minutes to 4.5 hours, but later updates from the railway company indicated that more than 50 trains were affected. An operational headquarters was established by the North Caucasus Railway to manage the situation, and several commuter trains were canceled or delayed. Trains are passing through the affected area at reduced speeds.
The acting regional governor confirmed the attack on the station.
Passengers on delayed trains are being provided with water, and those delayed for over four hours are receiving food, Russian Railways said. The company has also opened additional ticket offices at 13 stations and is notifying passengers via SMS.
This follows a similar incident a day earlier when a drone strike on the Likhaya-Zamchalovo section disrupted the schedules of at least 132 trains.

A massive overnight Russian drone and missile attack on Kyiv killed one person and injured at least nine others, including a child, as strikes hit six districts across the Ukrainian capital, officials said Monday.
The head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Timur Tkachenko, reported that the combined assault caused widespread damage, with the Darnytskyi district on the left bank of the Dnieper River being the most severely affected. A kindergarten, a supermarket, warehouses, and other non-residential buildings caught fire in the district. One person was killed there.
In the central Shevchenkivskyi district, a multi-story apartment building was damaged, with the blast wave and debris shattering windows and wrecking apartments. The entrance to the Lukianivska metro station was also hit, marking the sixth time the station has been damaged since the start of the full-scale invasion. The attack temporarily disrupted public transport, with the station closed and several bus and trolleybus routes altered before service was restored later in the morning.
Significant damage was also reported in the Solomianskyi district, where an administrative building was partially destroyed and warehouses caught fire. In the Dniprovskyi district, debris fell on the grounds of a kindergarten and started a fire in a series of market stalls. The Holosiivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts sustained minor damage, primarily from falling shrapnel.
Tkachenko confirmed that one person died and the number of injured had risen to nine by late morning, including a child suffering from multiple injuries. "The most painful part is the human losses," he wrote in a statement. Emergency services and psychologists are working at the impact sites, and local authorities have set up support centers for affected residents.

Russia launches massive 450-weapon air attack on Ukraine, says Kyiv
Russia launched one of its most extensive air attacks of the war on Monday, targeting Ukraine with 450 drones and missiles in an overnight assault that struck multiple cities, the Ukrainian Air Force said.
The massive combined attack included 24 missiles of various types and 426 drones. The aerial barrage consisted of five Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles launched from the Tambov region, four Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea, one Iskander-K cruise missile from Millerovo, and 14 Kh-101 cruise missiles from the Saratov region airspace, according to the Air Force. The drone assault involved Shahed-type attack UAVs and decoy drones launched from multiple directions, including Bryansk, Oryol, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
Air defense forces, including aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, and electronic warfare (EW) units, engaged the targets across the country. The Air Force reported that a total of 224 aerial targets were neutralized. This included the downing of 200 attack UAVs. It also stated that all 24 cruise and ballistic missiles were intercepted, with most being shot down and the rest neutralized by EW or otherwise failing to reach their targets. An additional 203 decoy drones were either suppressed by electronic warfare or were lost from radar and failed to reach their objectives.
Despite the high interception rate, authorities confirmed direct impacts from 23 attack UAVs in three separate locations. Debris from downed drones and missiles also fell in at least 12 other locations, causing damage on the ground. The attacks resulted in casualties and damage in Kyiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and other regions.

Russia says it detained Moldovan-born man for treason, alleging ties to Ukrainian intelligence
Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Monday it had detained a 24-year-old native of Moldova in the city of Ryazan on suspicion of high treason, accusing him of collecting intelligence for Ukraine.
The FSB stated the man, who also holds Russian citizenship, was arrested after he allegedly established contact with Ukrainian military intelligence (GUR) via the Telegram messenger app in 2024. He is accused of gathering and transmitting information about a Russian Armed Forces unit and a defense industry enterprise in the Ryazan region, located southeast of Moscow.
Video released by the FSB and broadcast by state news agency TASS showed armed agents in camouflage storming a garage to detain the suspect. In a subsequent clip, the man, his face blurred, stated he was an "agent of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine" and had been cooperating with them since 2024.
"I collected and transmitted information on one of the units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and on a factory on the territory of the Ryazan region," the detained man said.
The FSB claimed that in exchange for his cooperation, Ukrainian intelligence promised to help him move to France. From there, he allegedly planned to join a Ukrainian armed formation, which is outlawed in Russia, to fight against Russian forces.
A criminal case has been opened for state treason under Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code, a charge that can carry a sentence of up to life in prison. A court has ordered the man to be held in pre-trial detention.

Ukraine's state security service on Monday detained a senior official from the country's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and conducted widespread searches at the agency's offices, alleging he was aiding Russia and had ties to its special services.[
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), along with the Prosecutor General's Office, announced it had detained Ruslan Magamedrasulov, a head of one of NABU's interregional detective units. He is suspected of "aiding the aggressor state," a charge related to facilitating his father's business in Russia. The SBU stated that Magamedrasulov, who was responsible for coordinating NABU's work in the frontline regions of Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia, acted as a middleman for his father's business selling industrial hemp in Russia's Dagestan region.
The SBU also accused the official of violating the law by concealing his father's Russian citizenship when applying for state security clearance. Investigators added that his mother lives in Kyiv but receives a pension from the Russian-occupied "Donetsk People's Republic" and shares pro-Kremlin content on social media.
The searches, which NABU claimed were conducted without court orders, are part of a wider investigation into Russian influence within the anti-corruption body. The SBU is also probing Magamedrasulov's alleged contacts with Fedor Khristenko, a fugitive former lawmaker from a banned pro-Russian party. The SBU claims Khristenko is linked to Russian special services and has "significant influence" on NABU's activities.
According to the SBU, Magamedrasulov was supposed to be based in Dnipro to oversee work in frontline areas but spent most of his time in Kyiv and recently returned from a vacation in Tenerife. The large-scale operation involved at least 70 searches concerning 15 NABU employees, according to sources cited by Ukrainian media. The NABU has stated it is clarifying the circumstances surrounding the raids.

Graham Warns Putin That Trump Will Impose Crippling Tariffs on Russian Oil Buyers
1/2
Senator Lindsey Graham, a prominent Republican ally of President Donald J. Trump, issued a stark warning to President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia on Sunday, declaring that Mr. Trump is prepared to impose crippling tariffs on countries like China, India, and Brazil if they continue to purchase Russian oil.
Appearing on Fox News, Mr. Graham delivered a blunt message, suggesting a dramatic escalation of economic pressure to cut off the revenue funding Russia’s war in Ukraine. "Putin, your turn is coming," Mr. Graham said. "Donald Trump is the Scottie Scheffler of American politics and foreign diplomacy, and he's about to put a whooping on your ass."
Mr. Graham said the new administration would target the primary customers of Russian crude, which he identified as China, India, and Brazil, stating they purchase approximately 80% of Russia's oil exports."That's what keeps Putin's war machine going," he said, adding that Mr. Trump plans to levy a 100% tariff on those nations to "punish them for helping Putin."
The ultimatum, as framed by Mr. Graham, would force a choice. "China, India and Brazil, they're about to face a choice between the American economy or helping Putin," he said. "And I think they're going to come pick the American economy."
>>510969382The joke is that globalhomos always support suicide missions until they reach 47% casualties
>>5109696022/2
This new threat is an extension of an ultimatum President Trump reportedly gave Mr. Putin on July 14, demanding a halt to military operations in Ukraine within 50 days or face severe consequences. Mr. Graham has previously invoked the intense economic pressure campaign against Iran as a model for what Russia could face, telling Mr. Putin to "call the Ayatollah" to understand the potential impact.
NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, after a recent meeting with Mr. Trump, echoed the warning, stating that countries maintaining trade with Russia could face secondary sanctions.
Mr. Graham, a consistent advocate for robust support for Ukraine, has long called for tougher sanctions and the use of frozen Russian assets to aid Kyiv. While a bill he sponsored proposing even harsher tariffs is currently stalled in the Senate, his comments are seen as a clear signal of the aggressive economic posture the Trump administration intends to take. "If I were Putin, I would come to the negotiating table as soon as possible," Mr. Graham advised.

Record rainfall floods Moscow, stranding vehicles and collapsing bridge
Record-breaking downpours inundated Moscow on Monday, turning streets into rivers, submerging vehicles, and leading to the collapse of a bridge in the surrounding region, officials and media reports said.
Russia's meteorological service reported that the deluge broke a 144-year-old record for daily rainfall, with some areas receiving nearly a full month's worth of precipitation in just a few hours. In Zelenograd, 91 mm of rain was recorded, surpassing the monthly norm of 85 mm.
Videos posted on social media showed cars almost entirely underwater, a delivery driver wading through waist-deep floods with his e-bike, and an ambulance stranded in high water under a bridge. Major thoroughfares including the Volokolamskoye Highway and Shelepikhinskaya Embankment were closed due to the flooding. Moscow's transport department urged residents to abandon private cars and use public transportation, as the city's storm drains were overwhelmed. The extreme weather also caused significant disruption at the city's airports, with around 130 flights delayed or canceled.
In the Naro-Fominsk district of the Moscow region, a concrete bridge collapsed, cutting off the village of Aleksino and two dacha communities from road access.
The massive flooding has prompted calls for action, with some State Duma deputies appealing to the prime minister to introduce compensation for car owners whose vehicles were damaged, blaming the city's inadequate drainage infrastructure. Forecasters predict the rain and strong winds will continue throughout the day.

Russian forces have wounded at least nine people, including a child and four police officers, in a series of drone and artillery strikes across Ukraine's southern Kherson region over the past day, Ukrainian officials said on Monday.
The National Police reported that Russian attacks targeted 47 populated areas, damaging a multi-story apartment building, ten private homes, a medical facility, a mobile phone tower, a water tower, and other critical infrastructure.
In the village of Zymivnyk, early morning artillery and drone strikes hit a private house, injuring a 51-year-old man and his 17-year-old daughter. In Nikolske, a 47-year-old man was hospitalized with a traumatic brain injury and shrapnel wounds after being struck by an FPV drone.
Separately, in the Dnipro district of Kherson city, a drone attack on Monday morning injured two women, aged 45 and 71. Both were hospitalized with blast-related injuries. Another Russian shell struck the city's main theater, damaging the building's facade.
Additionally, four police officers who came under artillery fire in the center of Kherson on July 19 later sought medical attention and were diagnosed with concussions, the police service added.

Russia says it thwarted Ukrainian drone plot, detains suspect in St. Petersburg
Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said on Monday it had detained a Russian citizen in St. Petersburg who it accused of gathering intelligence for Ukraine to prepare for a massive drone strike on the city.
The FSB's regional branch said the suspect had "proactively established contact with Ukrainian special services" and, acting on their instructions, collected information on defense industry and Ministry of Defense facilities in St. Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad region. A criminal case has been opened under the charge of "aiding terrorist activities," which carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
Video released by the FSB showed plainclothes officers tackling a man near a park bench and forcing him to the ground before leading him away. In a subsequent interrogation inside a vehicle, the man, whose face was blurred, confessed to his role.
"I arrived at the coordinates that I entered into the navigator... took photos and sent them to him," the man said in the video. He stated that the information was intended to facilitate a "strike" with "80 drones." When asked who the attack would be used against, he replied, "Against the soldiers of Russia."
The suspect has been placed in pre-trial detention.

Russian soldier jailed for murdering wife on wedding night wants to return to Ukraine front
A Russian soldier who joined the army to escape a prison sentence has been jailed for 12 and a half years for murdering his new wife on their wedding night, a case that casts a harsh light on the social consequences of the war in Ukraine.
Alexei Marchukov, a junior sergeant, was on his second leave from the frontlines when he killed his wife, Marina, with a utility knife in a drunken, jealous rage just hours after they had married. The Yekaterinburg garrison military court sentenced him to a strict-regime penal colony for the murder, which took place in the village of Yurginskoye in the Tyumen region on 5 March.
After the verdict, Marchukov stated his intention to return to fight in Ukraine after serving his time.
The couple officially registered their marriage on 4 March and celebrated with family at the home of Marchukov's sister, Lyubov. She told local news outlet 72.ru that it was an "ordinary get-together" but that her brother was very drunk. Later that evening, after the newlyweds returned home, an argument broke out. Marchukov stabbed his wife in the heart, and she died from massive blood loss.
The victim's son, Andrey, said his mother had suffered previous abuse at Marchukov's hands but loved him deeply. "There was an incident last year when Mom disappeared... He had beaten her. And she said that she couldn't live like that," Andrey told reporters. "The next day, they reconciled: he begged her on his knees to come back."
Marchukov, who worked at a sawmill, had a history of disorderly conduct and brawling. His sister told journalists that he was given a choice by authorities: "either to prison, or to the SVO [special military operation]." He signed a military contract and went to Ukraine as a volunteer, where he became a squad commander.

>>510960866 (OP)My daughter and her boyfriend just got back from a trip to Russia. They had been looking forward to this for nearly a year, but ended up hating every second of it.
Her boyfriend is Black, and they got harassed and abused everywhere they went. They called her a whore, and him a monkey. They actually feared for their lives at certain times. She called me in tears on the second night.
I'm glad they've made it back safely to the good old USA. We may have problems here, but we're nowhere near as bad as Russia. And that's why it's important that Putin is defeated!

Ex-Ukrainian police official dies in same Spanish complex where Russian defector was killed
A former high-ranking Ukrainian police official has died under mysterious circumstances in a resort town in Spain, in the same apartment complex where a Russian military pilot who defected to Ukraine was assassinated less than two years ago, Spanish and Ukrainian media reported.
Igor Grushevsky, 61, was found dead on June 29 in the swimming pool of the Cala Alta residential complex in Villajoyosa, a town on the Mediterranean coast popular with Russian and Ukrainian expatriates. He had recently purchased an apartment in the building and was reportedly doing renovation work himself.
According to reports, neighbors found Grushevsky face down in the water and pulled him out, but attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. While an initial examination found no signs of violence on his body, the fact he was bleeding from one ear has fueled speculation among residents about the cause of death. Spanish authorities are investigating, with possibilities ranging from a stroke or heart attack to murder.
Ukraine's foreign ministry confirmed the death was due to drowning and said its consulate was assisting with the repatriation of his body.
Grushevsky was a former senior official in Ukraine's Department for Combating Organized Crime, heading units in the Cherkasy and Kirovohrad regions in the 1990s. The department was disbanded in 2015. Neighbors described him as a recluse who kept to himself.
The death has drawn significant attention because it occurred in the same location as the February 2024 murder of Maxim Kuzminov, a 28-year-old Russian pilot who had defected to Ukraine months earlier in his Mi-8 helicopter. Kuzminov was shot multiple times and run over by a car in the complex's underground garage in a killing widely attributed to Russian intelligence services.

EU Sanctions Iranian Oil Tycoon for Role in Russian Trade
The European Union sanctioned a prominent Iranian oil trader and several of his companies, part of its latest round of measures targeting Russia over its war against Ukraine.
Hossein Shamkhani, whose father is a senior adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was added to the bloc’s sanctions list for his role in the Russian oil trade and as “a central player” in the country’s so-called “shadow fleet,” the EU said. It also named his Dubai-based firms Admiral Group and Milavous Group Ltd.
“Hossein Shamkhani is involved in an economic sector providing a substantial source of revenue to the Government of the Russian Federation,” the EU said in a statement.
A Bloomberg News investigation last year showed how the Shamkhani network had become a major player in the export of Russian and Iranian oil, and established a hedge fund with offices in London, Dubai and Geneva to help manage the proceeds. Shamkhani has consistently contested Bloomberg’s reporting on his business affairs.
The latest EU sanctions are aimed at further crimping the Kremlin’s energy revenue, the bulk of which comes from crude exports to India and China. As part of its new package, the bloc also lowered the price cap on Russian oil.
What is Ukraine's and Russia's position on Israel and Gaza? This is important for me to know who I support.

Italian Arts Festival Cancels Concert by Pro-Putin Conductor Valery Gergiev
1/2
An Italian summer music festival has canceled a performance by the Russian conductor Valery Gergiev, a prominent supporter of President Vladimir V. Putin, following an outcry from politicians, human rights groups, and Ukrainian organizations who threatened to protest the event.
The management of the Reggia di Caserta, a former royal palace near Naples, announced on Monday that Mr. Gergiev’s concert, scheduled for July 27 as part of the "Un’Estate da Re" festival, would not go forward. The decision was made to preempt planned demonstrations by Ukrainian groups, some of whom had bought tickets with the intention of protesting from inside the venue.
The planned appearance by Mr. Gergiev, who is the general director of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky theaters in Russia, had drawn fierce criticism for weeks. More than 700 intellectuals and Nobel laureates signed a letter addressed to European and Italian officials, including the regional governor Vincenzo De Luca, urging them to cancel the performance. An online petition gathered 16,000 signatures.
>>5109722642/2
The controversy highlights the cultural fallout from Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which has made Mr. Gergiev a toxic figure in many Western venues. He was dismissed from his post as chief conductor of the Munich Philharmonic in 2022 after refusing to condemn the invasion. He has a long history of supporting Mr. Putin, including signing a letter in favor of the 2014 annexation of Crimea.
Despite the pressure, Mr. De Luca, the governor of the Campania region which organizes the festival, had resisted calls to cancel, questioning the line between freedom of expression and propaganda. However, Italy’s culture minister, Alessandro Giuli, expressed his "full and convinced support" for the final decision to cancel.
The Russian Embassy in Rome condemned the cancellation, stating it would "damage Italy itself, which in this way undermines its own authority and gives reason to doubt its hospitality." Mr. Gergiev, when asked for comment by the Russian news agency Tass, said he had not been officially informed of the cancellation.

Russia to Introduce Fines for Cryptocurrency Payments from 2026 to Close Loophole
Russia plans to introduce substantial fines for the use of cryptocurrency as a form of payment starting in 2026, a move intended to close a legal loophole that has persisted despite an existing ban.
Anatoly Aksakov, head of the State Duma's financial market committee, stated that a draft law will be considered by lawmakers this autumn. The bill, developed by the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance, proposes fines for individuals starting at 100,000 rubles and for companies at 700,000 rubles. In addition to the monetary penalties, the cryptocurrency used in the illicit transaction will be subject to confiscation.
While Russia outlawed the use of digital currencies for payments in 2021, the absence of specific penalties has allowed a "grey zone" to emerge. This has been used for transactions such as cross-border settlements to bypass sanctions, and for salary payments in the IT and creative sectors.
The proposed legislation aims to make such operations economically unviable. However, the bill will not affect the legality of owning, mining, buying, or investing in cryptocurrencies, which will remain permitted activities. Officials have suggested that crypto payments for foreign trade may be allowed in the future under a special experimental legal framework.

>>510972502>>510972573So is Ukraine's position on Israel itself not particularly against or in favor?
>>510972954are you asking a serious question or want to jewpost?
historically(since 1991) israel was never a relevant issue in ukr politics(god knows why it's so relevant in other countries), so ukraine just took whatever position was useful to 'fit in' - first it was anti-israel to fit in with western euros, in recent years it shifted to more pro-israel to suck up to americans/trump and to oppose iran-russia alliance
