Why do Indians depict their sages and deities as light skinned (when depicting realistic skin tones)?

Because they were aryans. The Vedic tradition, I believe, is the last survive aryan tradition. I think if you’re looking for a tradition you’ll have to find it in the east or near east unfortunately. I don’t think Catholicism or Orthodox church has what it takes to keep our souls nourished in the west.

Because it is ancestor worship, like vikings and Odin, but in this case instead of worshipping their own ancestors as godfigures they worship the men who conquered their ancestors and brought civilization to their lands (or atleast they tried).
