Nah I plan on fucking over my prepper neighbor who was stupid enough to show me his stash of canned foods / gallons of water out of pride. Raidermaxxing is the best option, let the NPCs do the growing/hunting and then take from them.

WW's 1 and 2 lasted 4 and 6 years long. The vast majority of preppers have supplies for far less than that. If you cannot produce, you are at risk.

I moved-in here only a few years ago, so most of my plants are still fairly small.

If you want a tasty starchy vegetable to grow for the end times get a load of sunchoke tubers. They take no effort to grow and spread quickly by themselves.

What kind of corn?
We grow a lot of that where I live, so there's not really much of an incentive to grow it myself, but if I did I would opt for some glass gem corn.

sweet corn. in August I'll boil it and put butter on it and eat it on the cob. maybe even throw it on the grill for the black grill marks. then save one copy that's from the tallest plant, and one cob thats the biggest cob with most kernels to dry and plant next yar

I got a couple glass gem growing, but they are permanently stunted, forgot that area is shaded. still got the seeds.

It also useful to have an intimate knowledge of your local area for wild fruit trees and berry bushes. I could go out right now and pick hoards and hoards of blackberries, cherries and plums and in a few months apples and pears.

Knowing how to hunt and prepare your own meat is very useful.
If you're lazy, planting some fruit/nut trees and getting the squirrels nice and fat before harvesting them instead is a good way to go about it.

The people, throughout all human history, who are the most likely to survive are the ones who grow their own food.
Even if you're just reducing your grocery bill, that can be the difference between making it during hard times or not.
The only incentive you have to push back against this is because you're scared of people being less dependent on you and therefore less willing to die for you.
