People say good fences make for good neighbours.
What better fence than a raspberry hedge?
Mature perennial plants increase your property value, make you more likely to survive famines and it's wonderful for your morale. You get to see beautiful greener, flowers and then colourful fruit that taste amazing and nourish you far more than anything you'd get at Walmart or whatever.

You know it's important by the number of glowies who invade these threads to dissuade you from doing it.

It depends on what hardiness zone you're in, but yes. It's one of the easiest plants to grow.
You'll often get a very small harvest the second year after planting, a reasonable one the third year and then huge ones from thereon.
If possible, you should try planting multiple varieties so that they pollinate each other, thereby producing larger harvests. You can also get multiple sets that flower and fruit at different times, so you can have a section that is your "early" raspberries and then a section for your "late" raspberries.

If you don't like thorns, I strongly recommend thimbleberry. They're super cute and an explosion of flavour.

It's not that bad. Not like there's a wasp invasion. If I'm in my garden, there's maybe a wasp every hour or so. Half of them just fly away, but the other half are looking for trouble, and then they get some deo and fly away. Then they can tell their nigger wasp friends that you don't get away with being an asshole wasp in my garden.

Blackberry brambles are nature's barbed wire. Grows fast and taller than a man when mature, with half-inch thick vines full of thorns. Better than a fence for keeping out trespassers. Also makes for a nice home for all kinds of birds cause the cats can't get at them if they nest in the brambles.

I prefer raspberries desu but blackberry bushes are bigger and meaner. Granted you will have to fight them from taking over your property.

I will reach 100 pounds of homegrown raspberries this year, so far I made 400$ selling them (~40 pounds so far).
One day I had 25 pounds in my fridge, all sold in one day.

Haskaps fruits early and the plant grow easily, it's nice.
Tayberries I heard that they are less tasty, is it true?
I could buy some but im in zone 4.

Thimbleberries are kind of dry and they don't fruit a lot, but as a kid it was a delicacy because of the rarety.

A single blackberry cane can reach 4 meters easily when grown in a good soil.
I have no thorn blackberries but the harvest is difficult, the ripe fruit looks almost identical to an unripe one, it requires a legendary forager to get the right ones only.

Yes but right now the fuckers started days ago eating my raspberries, cherries and blackberries, they do this every year but they eat ripe and super ripes ones.

Buy cultivars, clone them from roots of drageons; by growing from seed you play the genetic lottery and more than often you may lose by seeing a downgrade.
I have a blackberry patch that was grown that way, it's now an hybrid: very, very vigorous with 4 meters long canes but smaller speedier fruits, still tasty tough.

I have goji berries plants, they have sick spines and they have yet to fruit, I'm cloning more of them because it's a rare fruit.

Aronia is an healthy plant, I recommend but people don't know about that fruit. Choose a good tasty cultivar, some are not tasty.

Clones pretty easy.
Temperamental in how it fruits here, pretty sure it's just too hot for it.
You think goji berry spines are bad, try gooseberry. Goji is positively polite comparatively

My mulberry trees piss me off. They drop fruit on my car and in my walkway. Not to mention the mulberry-colored bird shit. They're sweet, but have no flavor. But it's a nice tree and clearly a hardy and consistant source of sugar for dangerous times.

Gooseberries can't keep their leaves here, the japanese beetles and co destroy them, they are filled with fruits but almost out of leaves so I guess the harvests will suck; my neighbor gave me like 50 plants of them when he did a bit of cleaning in his patchs.
I grow some sub tropical and tropical plants, my tangelos citrus got long delay thorns of almost 2 inches tall, and my naranjillos (lulos) are filled with thorns from head to toes, even on their leaves it's sick and they fruited in my house in january and february in the middle of winter, it was awesome the fruits taste absolutely divine they call it the nectar of the gods.
