Monogamous "civilized" parenthood only arises when there are significant challenges to raising offspring. Many birds have monogamous mating pairs and it seems because of their need to sit on eggs/teach children to fly. Frogs and seahorses have such vulnerable and energy intensive existences that without two parents caring for the eggs none would hatch.

None of this really matters for most of mammalian life, pump and dump chads + single mothers works well enough for most mammalian, let alone simpler life.
