>>511022761>That verse is one of the worst verses to translate to English btw. There is so so so much subjective rewriting of it that isn't in the original text.NASB gets it just about right though.
You trust the NASB translators, I trust the KJV translators. You've got your reasons and I've got mine, but there aren't any originals extant (that we know of) so you've got to accept that God simply preserved His word through copies, just as He promised He would.
>God is basically telling the Israelites "I picked you to be my personal slaves, you're not better than anyone"All the crap in other translations about "special treasure" and being "above others" is simply not there in the original text.
Again, you don't have the originals. They exist in your imagination but not in the real world.
But you are right about one thing, God did not choose Israel because of their righteousness but rather because of His promise to the patriarchs:
โSpeak not thou in thine heart, after that the Lord thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the Lord hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord doth drive them out from before thee. Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee, and that he may perform the word which the Lord sware unto thy fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Understand therefore, that the Lord thy God giveth thee not this good land to possess it for thy righteousness; for thou art a stiffnecked people.โ (Deuteronomy 9:4-6)
>That single verse is one of the biggest reasons that Christian boomers mindlessly and mistakenly think so highly of jews. Not me. They have a lot of baggage, but so do we.
