In defense of the Injuns, they did have some surprisingly complex governmental systems such as the Iroquois Confederacy so the idea they were all too busy being scalp-happy incestuous dirt worshippers to form any sort of society isn't correct. Without their help, early settlers in America would've had a much harder time navigating the land they would come to colonize too.
