General purpose ai and robotics are incredible force multipliers, eliminating the need for local government, human police etc. An entire country could be ruled, administered, policed, funded, defended, built, powered, educated and entertained by a few dozen people.
They would also outperform humans in almost all tasks except for a few weird things (highly lateral thinking, dunno). The general public, unable to find a way to slot into the economy, will get less and less public investment. Dunno why the rulers would want to keep us around except maybe as entertainment
