I was a kid when this game came out and I'm playing it now with GTA 6 coming out next year

>recession/bad economy references everywhere
>weirdly optimistic vibe however
>way less tattoos on female NPCs
>neon wigger beach gear w/hipster glasses
>meaningless slogan wristbands
>early social media that is clearly corporate but barely moderated
>lots of rap music but none of it political
>racism is irrelevant in a plot with a black protagonist

Did Rockstar get the early 2010s right? What was the QoL for young men like when compared to today?

2010 things were marginally better
2000 things were noticeably better
1990 things were significantly better
...
etc. etc. until 1970s

today is shit. i feel bad for zoomers for having this as their baseline of how things should be

I was halfway through high school when this game came out. It was right before the woke stuff became popular, the clothing and music style was very much โ€œpartyโ€ oriented due to the success of LMFAO and other bands, and internet culture/social media was sort of โ€œsettling in,โ€ the boom was over and it was starting to be accepted that everyone used it and it was here to stay.

The only girls with tattoos back then were goths, and it wasn't considered trashy because they didn't get half-assed doodles it was either full sleeve or full body. Idk who started the nigger doodle culture but it's terrible. Apart from this being 'trashy' was considered ironic, it was a joke that lasted too long and really stupid people couldn't see the 'satire' then began to imitate it. That's how you got Youtube pranksters and all of the ironic rappers like lil B that barely a decade later went mainstream and appealed to actual retards. Also the color-blind bullshit was terrible even in the 90s, it was proto-woke, but at the time black people weren't common at all in mainstream media so people saw it as a novelty. I suggest you read Heideggar, he explains it better than I can, but the gist of it is that evil is something that lingers too long. That's why he's considered to be a prophet to hipsters.

and emos, and punks, and metalheads, and gamer girls, and literature nerds, and mystical raver chicks, etc.

I was in Afghanistan when this came out. That's pretty fucking crazy. We had an op in my unit that supposedly found a copy in a taliban guy's house, but I didn't get to play it until I was home.

Everything was more hopeful back then and people were infinitely less cynical. The jew still jewed, but they definitely had an equilibrium with society where people were very much independent of their shit. It wasn't until 2015-ish that hints of bullshit *really* started to appear.

The early 2010s were a good time and no one was talking about race or cared about race. Even after trayvon martin and the birth of black lives matter it still wasnt enough. The jews needed a few more years to fan the flames.

The emos I knew didn't have tats, some had snakebites though. Piercings were somewhat popular and the only 'metalhead' girls I can think of that had them were like roadies. Lit nerds basically wore the same petro-rimmed glasses, they usually wore their hair short, but I don't recall tats. Gamer girls were almost non-existent, it was still very niche at the time, people literally thought Olivia Munn was a gamer. Punks idk, you mean like garage punk? The chain smoking, leather jacket, liberty spike wearing, GG Allin type punks? Some of those women just outright shaved their heads, don't really recall tats being so common with them however, they were big on drugs. The hot topic punk came way later around the late 2000s.

In a nutshell, it was the obama era. the campaign slogans were literally
>hope
>change
>yes we can
it had a profound effect on the zeitgeist, this is also when all the folksy stomp-clap-hey music got popular
