The comp sci job market has collapsed. You have to be good and driven to succeed in this market

Unironically you should have went to trade school and learned to be a plumber or electrician. A self employed plumber now earns more than most com sci grads

The "go into trades" and the "AI is taking over programming" memes are getting old.
Have you ever used an LLM to actually generate code in a very large code base? It's useless actually generating code by itself without it being looked over and fixed by a programmer who knows what they're doing.
Also,

My advice as a non-tech bro. This is where you need to engage with some self-agency - particularly if you are a White man.

Open up your own corporation, put a posting on google offering to help Boomers with IT needs - with a rate for setting up printers, etc for individuals. Then market something also to business based clients.

If you have other friends in the space with a similar issue, find a project to start working on independently while looking for work or accepting shittier work.

You could also start applying for jobs at companies you know are jeeted / h1b heavy and see if there is a way to sue them later.

Let me guess, you've applied nowhere else, have you?
The problem with comp sci isn't that it's dying, the problem is that the $300k entry level jobs were like the 1% of jobs but got the most attention. 99% of programming jobs are building some back end for s furniture company or front end for restaurants or etl pipeline for a brake company, but nooooo that's too boring and not sexy and ONLY pays $140k ew gross!

Furthering to this:

>Email Migration
>Basic Cybersecurity
>Printer Setup
>Land Pages / Basic Website Design
>Offer to build Apps for businesses
>Offer work on FIver, Totpal, Upwork

You can try to set up a community program where you teach ex-cons, foster kids or special needs kids IT. Or even offer tutoring or other aspects.

Otherwise look at your surroundings and think 'what product can I make which is marketable?'

Anon, I'm in grad school. I don't recommend it at all. You'll just spend years working for pennies to get a degree that doesn't give you a lot of leg up in the industry, all while your mental health plummets. Do you know how stressful it is to have to keep reworking a paper because your university demands you target venues with less than 20-25% acceptance rates just to graduate?

It depends on the store. Most don't do it anymore but the nice one I go to does. They usually prioritize doing it for old people and will haul it out to their car for them if they want. The baggers at my store also do other support things when it's not too busy.

it's not exclusively for boomers but that was the target demographic. it was a lot of mom's doing the grocery shopping too. you'd help bag for everyone but if they requested groceries brought out to their car you'd do it. i worked in a white neighborhood so no one bought watermelon or sprite specifically but I'd imagine you would bag them if they bought them.
