FYI - The next Greece. Financial Crisis inbound, massive inflation, rising unemployment and government influence in residential homes and private sector.

40,000 New Zealanders left the country to find work in the last 12 months. Overall net migration is low, offset by changes to laws enabling extended families, grandparents, relatives of newly migrated families to pursue residency in hope of countering the mass exodus of qualified and skilled workers due to historically extremely low wages.

Theres a reason the ROI for banks on residential lending in New Zealand is the most profitable market globally.

The entire economy is a ponzi that has been heavily manipulated by the wealthy and global commerical interests since mass deregulation in the 80s. Boomers made bank, hoarded wealth and are refusing to retire. Limiting job prospects... hence mass exodus. Around 160k New zealanders since covid have left and have not returned. Replaced by migrants and imported wealth further fueling the ponzi and driving inflation.

New Zealand once produced the best dairy and meat in the world, but government owned agencies have spent the last 2 decades exporting top-tier livestock, IP, and knowledge to support developing dairy/meat sectors in BRICs countries. Significantly devaluing the future of these sectors locally in search of quick cash.

Oh, like 25 years ago we also filmed a few movies that are talked about weekly still by media outlets as a sign of the economic strength the country has.

More?

Have been to/worked in NZ. Slow life, pretty boring, people take their time for shit and value their personal time a lot. I would also have 1 million Māori instead of a 100 Abbos any day. Abbos are pure pajeets, without the steppe input, while the Māori have something Asian in them which instantly makes them x100 preferable.

The Maori woman in parliamnet is in relation to the reality that the brits showed up in the 1800s. Declared the country theirs and started marketting a bright and profitable future to the british in hopes of enticing brits to migrate and settle.

Due to 1800s britain been a complete class nightmare. With most average families stuck in lives of serfdom and unable to move up the social/income ladder.
Brits started arriving en masse under promises of cheap fertile land. Yet a great proportion of it had not been agreed with the Maori, and outside of the defined and agreed settlements the Maori weren't too happy about the speed of change.

The brit migrants weren't happy having felt lied to. Stuck in small overcrowded settlements with limited food no ability to develop the land as they were promised. The british elites back in england scared that they would lose their cashcow started offering Muskets etc. to the Maori in exchange for land hoping they would wipe themselves out with tribal warfare.

Sort of worked, but also Maori started fighting the british. Back in england the elites lobbied parliment to start sending british soldiers to just straightup slaughter Maori who defied or protested against land seziures.

We run a deal with the BRICS contries developed by government agencies called Genes on Legs. Something that isn't avaliable to local farmers or indsutry. Whereby we sell prime export dairy milking cows for dirt cheap and inseminate them with pre-sexed female twins. breaking an NDA here folks.

Meaning when they arrive on the boat in China they get 3 cows for the price of 1. NZ cattle stock has been selectively bred for 150 years, creating unique breeds that produce huge volumes of milk etc. Our local farmers and industry aren't offered such luxuries and as a result hundreds of thousands of male born calfes are knocked ont he head as soon as they are born and thrown in offal pits.

Yes it seems pretty much over as seen by the amount of people leaving. I think we are the testbed for some kind of new "economic zone" rather than a country. Two major factories that have been around for 100 years for bought out by multinationals then shut down in favour of cheeper production elsewhere. And our one profitable business milk powder is being aggressively taken over by Chinese state backed companies.
We also shut down our only oil refinery to be 100% dependant on imports

Home ownership for mellenials is an unreachable as on average a residential home doubles in value every 10 years. Wage growth sits at 2-3% each year.

This gave boomers a good 30 years to build rental portfolios for which if they choose to sell a property there is no tax or captial gains factoring. Overseas investment in the residential property market is a huge issue, but supported by government to enable stimulus and keep the ponzi going.

We're a small country so the scale might not be comparable. We have about 120 publically elected members of parliment whom collectively own over 700 residential properties. So about 6 properties each, doubling in value every 10 years.

Very corrupt and very incentivised to keep the residential property bubble growing.

We have mass offshore gas/oil reserves having produced huge quantities since the 60s. But as a society most are against exploration and continued extraction of natural resources. So no elected government dears open up the prospect... instead pushing housing and immigration.

Food is hella expensive. Living is hella expensive. The culture is still dominated by 'tall poppy' syndrome. Where anyone that stands out or goes against the grain in a group or organisation setting will be outcase and targetted by the group.

Oh and from the huge deregulation driven by govenrment in the 80s. Most of the state owned assets/infrastrcture at the time were sold off to private interests (Prior to deregulation the govt controlled majority of industry, utilities, and infrastructure since ww2). These were promptly sold off for pennies. Asset stripped and then have spent the last 30 years with minmimal investment or maintenace on infrastructure.

As a society this means most of our power, internet, roading, water, utilities etc. are outdated undermaintained and failing. We still have a public health system, but most people with cancer etc. due to huge patient volumes, limited specialists and lack of screening services are terminal before they make it to see a specialist.

Oh yeah we still have a hole in the ozone layer caused by the rest of the world and CFC production in the 80s/90s. This means there is way less UV protection than elsewhere in the world. Increasing the risk of developing skin cancers due to sun exposure by 400% versus America/Europe etc.

Her election promise was to build 100,000 new entry level homes within her initial period as prime minister to offset the housing ponzi and reduce overinvestment in residential sector. However only 250 were ever built and delivered.

This has contirbuted to keeping rents high for private housing. With most non-owner occupiers devoting 46% of their income to paying rent on housing.

IF you have money its the best country in the world. Its a rigged economy, anyone with capital makes bank. I've watched friends make millions with the help of existing family wealth. Its genuienly beautiful here, but there is too much government influence and its almost impossible to make a decent living if your working class or have kids etc. Given the mass migration its very hard to move up in organisations, with migrants offering technical skills and exposure that isn't avaliable in NZ making them preferred candiates and often cheaper than promoting internal candiates.

I'm out. Heres the view from my office window right now though, very pretty place indeed. But I'm heading to Aus/UK for better work in next few months like everyone else.

If we were refining the ore to support local industry and value-added production then def. As it would be value-add stimulus for kiwi industry and manufacturing. But given its just another cash grab to send raw materials offshore for cheap - Only for Kiwis to buy them back as finished goods at a higher price i'm dead against it.

We have proven time and time again we cannot govern and effectively regulate the fishing industry to the point we are decimating local fisherie stocks beyond repair. There is no way any foreign interest would/could be held accountable to mass extract iron ore in a way that reduces the impacts on the seabad/sealife and coastal erosion etc.

You need to be earning 200k NZD a year minimum as a household to live comfortably and ideally come with enough cash to buy a home outright. . It's very hard as even qualified or technical disiplinces are extremely underpaid. So you might get paid well for a role currently but get half that over here. The current government is anti contractors/day-traders and openly deprecates their use due to the increased cost/income power of an individual versus a wage earner.

My kids have an amazing life here, loads of social groups and good schooling. Spending a huge part of their life in nature and outdoors
