After putting $400,000 down your monthly payment is $12,000

Even at a salary of a quarter million a year you're only taking home $13.8k month, so you need to be making closer to half a million to afford a $2m home

No, 30 year mortgage

And $12k is a low estimate, the assumed rates for insurance/taxes are definitely lowballed on the calculator, so realistically it's in the $13-14k range

I live in cambridge and the amount of wealth that is just sitting in these neighborhoods around boston is absolutely mindboggling. Its like this all across the golden coast. 9’e thing that the article may have missed is that many of these homes are actually townhouses of 2-4 units, and you can probably get about $2-4k+ per unit depending in the quality of the unit and how close it is to the transit.
Additionally, the average income statistic is not robust to extreme outliers, and there exists an ultra wealthy class of elites from harvard, MIT, CEOs, tech, biotech and finance executives that skew that number incredibly high. Remove the top 100 wealthiest earners and the avg income for the boston area probably falls to around $70-120k. Also, you dont need to own a car here because we have some semblance of public transit that can take you to all the places you need to go. But yes this is one of the richest places in America outside of maybe new york, LA, and maybe miami.

Richers love walled gardens and unhappy plebs willing to pay for the beautiful lie. Same as it ever was.
