Spaying and neutering causes health problems due to destroying natural hormonal balances. You can compensate with hormone therapy and it's cheap to do so, but hardly anyone bothers and your vet will give you the side-eye for suggesting it.
Unless required by some shitty local laws or similar there's no reason to do it.

You really should let your pet develop fully before fixing them, if at all. So long as you are comfortable with your ability to supervise a dog and keep it under your control, I wouldn’t worry about having your pet fixed. Some females can be very tenacious about wanting to escape to find a male when they are in heat- my dog goes into heat twice per year, and rather than try to get out, she hunkers down at home, wanting cuddles for about 2wks. There’s a reduced risk of prostate cancer if you fix your animal, but an increased risk of stomach/bladder cancer, so take your pick.

That being said, again, it’s a great idea to let your animal’s urinary tract(especially important w/cats) form fully, and for them to develop to their adult size before having your animal fixed. I prefer 2yrs, but 1yr would be acceptable if I ever have a “problem” child. I haven’t noticed any major behavioral changes in my dogs and cats, although slightly more exercise or less food is required to maintain their figure.

i adopted my dog from another owner and she came to me spayed. she is still very young and sometimes she pees herself when sleeping, especially if tired after exercise. it's called spay incontinence because it's caused by the lack of estrogen which comes from spay. this also means her kidneys work overtime to make sex hormones, which also regulate bone density etc. this means spayed and neutered dogs also get lots of bone and joint diseases now.

Neutering a male dog is just the same nature of spaying a female dog; it's all still just gonadectomy. You're physically removing important endocrinological structures. Rates of certain disease (like bone or muscle disease) go up because you've removed these important structures.

Just enjoy your intact dog and make sure you actually keep a tabs of what they're doing.

If you do own co-ed, it may be arguably better to neuter but not to spay.

I don't know if there is any medical legitimacy to neutering them but it's likely they do end up living longer as eunuchs do. That being said, I almost lost my balls once and I couldn't do that to another creature. The least of all the one I want loyal dedication out of.
