Toyota is up +8% on the news of a 15% tariff.

Why?

It's simple.

Ford, GM, Tesla, and all the other American manufacturers are going to be paying 50% more for their steel, 50% more for their copper, 25% more for their Canadian production, 25% more for their Mexican production, and 55% on their Chinese production.

Toyota only has to pay 15% more and they're done with all the shenanigans.

Ford has to pay much more than that. A lot more in fact.

Japanese car company now have an even bigger advantage over American car companies.

All in hope of bringing auto jobs back to America.

The art of the deal, 0D Chess.

Are you fucking stupid?

It’s because now they know there won’t be anything more than a 15% tariff in japoanese cars.

The USA can now sell its cars in Japan without Japanese disincentives (fees, taxes McCain extra regulations). And we PRODUCE OUR OWN STEELE AND ALUMINUM

We do not “need” Canadian metal, American cars will be built fully in America

No wait that isn’t what happens and never has happened you shit for brains faggot retard,

What actually happens is now a factory that used to employ 3000 Asian slaves will employer 300 skilled American workers getting paid good wages and the owners have less overhead.

This is literally the dream where individuals or families could own the actual means of production and have largely automated factories providing enormous income to them

The ENTIRE point that the tariffs were sold on was to bringing back factories and bring back jobs. Enriching small numbers of already wealthy people is the real point. Wow 300 workers? Better make a fuckton of factories.
There is no plan to reduce the extreme wealth gap that exists, only plans to make it even larger.

Every day goods aroudn you are cheaper the problem was to achieve this our elite shipped in cheap slave labor or outsourced it to Asia (for slave labor)

In the 1950’s and 1960’s wages surpassed inflation, the average adult at 30 could expect to out earn his father be married with 2 kids and have a car

It’s because relatively spending his wages were super high.

That’s the goal. If we didn’t have fiat currency then actually mass production would road to DEFLATION, which the Jews absolutely do not want but we will get there

Stop thinking like a commie, the world and wealth isn’t 0 sum, it’s not becuse there isn’t enough to go around its becuse the people in charge sold you and me and our people out for cheap gains

It was pretty clear early on that Tariffs weren't designed to onshore or revitalize Mainstreet US.
It's just simply extra revenue for the Government. Sure you might have some headlines here or there but it's nothing of substance. So instead of onshoring or whatever, just invest in stonks/crypto. It's alot easier, instead of working in a factory you just left click buy/sell.

the poor won't even need to _buy_ cars with what we're going to have. the cybercab, waymos, zoox, etc. are going to completely rewrite the rules of (sub)urban trainsportation in this country and there's nothing the rest of the world can do about it. car ownership will be a luxury, but not because nobody can afford it, but because the mass of people who would rather not own a vehicle at all will simply forego the expensive of their own accord.

>Inflation hasn’t gone up at all
Tariffs don't increase the money supply, They are distortionary. For example if you can't afford a 150% markup on a Chinese TV, you don't buy the TV. If you do, that takes up your discretionary spending elsewhere.
I actually think the inflation narrative applied to the tariff is purposeful deceit. It's the primary reason the FED hasn't cut rates yet, and it's likely to exacerbate an economic downturn when it comes.. like very bad downturn. It's how the Great Depression started, FED remained tight for too long going into an economic downturn. However, all is not just rosy and rainbows if the FED does cut, if they do cut then you'll see a resurgence in asset inflation, wealth inequality then broad based inflation. So we're fucked either way.

Calm down. Toyota sources a lot of its parts from the same place as all the other mfrs. likewise, American mfrs will often source their parts from Japan (think engines). Toyota might get a slight edge having a large infrastructure already in place in the US but they all benefit from lowered tariffs. Also- the mfrs pass the costs on to the customer in terms of inflated costs.

Have you ever been outside of America? You'd know many Americans cars cant squeeze through ancient roads in Europe and Asia, they constantly overheat in the middle east, and are too expensive to be sold in Africa. The only moderate success outside of America is mainly Mexico and South America, Even then, its mainly cartels buying pickup trucks.

When the CIA was providing training and equipment for islamic insurgencies in the middle east, not even they give them American trucks. The CIA gave them Land Cruisers and Hilux trucks, never bothered them with a single silverado or f-150 to test out. U.S. military contracts constantly complain about not being able to use Land Cruisers, forced to use Chevys and Fords.

America has factories building American cars (some models which aren’t even available to us in America) that are spec’d out to the country they are manufactured for. The Ford Taurus built for the German market was far superior to our domestic model. I’ve seen quite a few rh steering American models built for the roads in East Asia.

Interestingly as per the CPI report New cars actually declined in June, Used cars are still up though. The big issue is insurance.
Insurance is only about 2.8% of the CPI weighting, the issue is that since June of last year it's up 50 basis points (from 830 to 880 using the 1982 = 100 basis)
It's the second highest increase in the basis after Tobacco/Smoking products (1600 basis points but it's less than .5% of the CPI weighting)

I think the idea is to create a niche for american steel, but that takes a long time. We can't just summon steel mills into existence on the drop of a hat, even with a government backed moonshot program to reindustrialize.

Tariffs are sometimes treated as a panacea or a cure all but historically its played out different.

I know for Brazil, which had really high car import tariffs...the idea was to protect their domestic car industry but their cars were shit.
What happened for them is their domestic car company didnt feel the need to compete because nobody could possibly afford the import cars so its possible for a really shitty domestic car to become even shittier. Keep in mind though Brazil in a country that has had multiple currency failures.

Trump is pretty much just sayin fuck it with tariffs, could work in the long run, but by the time he's out of office someone else will just undo it.

You fucking retard. My small business processes over 100 tons of steel annually. Fully 50% of that was US steel before the tariffs. Do you know what that means? It means we were already competitive and there is no reason for US suppliers to suddenly gouge me for 50% because their competition just got fucked, particularly when orders and terms have already been agreed upon. You don't know shit about how this is going to play out because the media is a bunch of faggots parroting the lines of middlemen who are about to lose their gift. Canada, China, et al are about to eat shit hard and in many cases already are. CMC and/or Nucor can spin up a few more mini mills processing our own scrap instead of shipping it to Chicoms and collapse those niggers whenever they get ready. You don't know shit faggot and I'm sick of hearing this stupid shit from "tax on the consumer" NPC fucking fucktards.

>Interestingly as per the CPI report New cars actually declined in June, Used cars are still up though. The big issue is insurance.
If they're buying 2015 or newer then they're ticking time bombs. I've watched a few videos on YT about the insane costs to repair something like a transmission (8-15k) on some models and its not affordable for to almost anyone. These cars are disposable. Was it Chevy that recently recalled like every truck that made in the last 10 years due to motor failure at sub 50k? If you're an independent mechanic, you have to use very specific computer hardware to diagnose these newer vehicles. Even if you know what the issue is, you still have to buy the computer that will code the car once you've fixed it. Those computers are upwards of 300k apparently, and then you have to pay a yearly fee (30k) to keep the software updated. No one outside of a dealership can work on the majority of these cars, independents are froze out due to the costs. If any anons go by their local junkyard you will be amazed at how many vehicles are sitting there to be parted out that in some cases look like they rolled off the showroom floor. They are there because something so catastrpohic happened to them internally that it would be cheaper in the long run just to buy another car.

Because we cover both high risk drivers and cars located in high risk areas. Sadly, because of its age , I don’t get Jack for my car if I get in a wreck- I literally pay $50 to have it towed and buy another ragged pos. That doesn’t prevent me from having to pay coverage for my neighbors highly modified $70k truck he engages in risky behavior with.

BYD is flooding their market right now. Brazil opened the door and its very hard to close it now. China currently has something like 100 car makers, completely unsustainable. What happens when those car companies start folding and your car won't start due to some kind of software corruption and that company is long gone. You're fucked.

I was out in Kuwait for a few years, it really is a different level of hell in terms of heat. Also, because the middle eastern (GCC) roads are built by pajeets, the city blocks are also supper narrow and poorly built. I almost feel bad for them. They get unlimited oil money to build futuristic cities, but only for them to hire pajeet slaves to build shitty roads.

Also, it's not just inner city roads, it's also the fact most places outside America don't have big garages or long driveways. You're dealing with short overhead garages, street parking, or a small courtyard with a small one (sometimes two) slot garage. Not to mention many countries charge their vehicle tax by displacement of the engine. Which disadvantages American cars too.

Bought a 2025 Kia Soul and the battery died after like 300 miles.... been fine since then but i've only had the car for 8 months. I'm currently at 3.5k miles and have dealership insurance for 30k~ miles (or something like that) and will have the car paid off sometime next year, Once the cars paid off I'll be throwing money in directions that print more money such that by the time the car finally craps out in like a decade when i'm still under 50k miles i don't really give a shit and just buy a new car that won't crap out on me for longer.

What are you babbling about? Not all Japanese drive kei cars- that’s usually something younger people or practical people do. Middle class general have a nice business sedan (or a good sized van for family use) and a kei car to run local errands in. There are plenty of corvette, old jeep, and sporty car fans. You’ll catch occasional retro cars there as well. The thing about Tokyo is that are opened up to a world market so we have a lot of competition outside of America.

We couldn’t get ahold of a base model Skyline or a Yaris GR. Years ago, Honda had a little roadster with a .5 liter motor (the Beat) that could make 70mph and live off a tank of gas for a month. Toyota had so many models that could fill in the gaps we lacked in the US long before Dodge cornered the soccer mom van crowd.

Ya Steel mills aren't that hard to build on a small scale, not that they are common mind you, searching google brings up a steel mill running entirely off solar (with a grid connection because they aren't retarded enough to go entirely solar) that just started construction and will be at full production in 2027, it's not a big mill, just 500k~ tons per year of rebar from recycled steel but still.
