Over 20% of marriages in Turkey are between cousins.
Muslim countries in general have horrifically high rates of cousin marriage.
Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran, and Iraq are all in the 40-55% range.

Why do they marry their own family like this? Aristocrats of the ancien regime did it to control inheritances and keep it in the family, but why advantage does some goat herder in Pakistan get from marry his brother's daughter? They have an insane rate of genetic disorder and the IQ just keeps going down, but they can't stop marrying their cousins as soon as they turn 9.

Ashkenazis clearly did a good deal of this back in the day too, given the prevalence of genetic diseases they have, but they stopped long ago.
It's baffling that even supposedly modernizing Muslim despots, like Saudi's Mohammed bin Salman or Dubai's Al Maktoum, aren't aggressively trying to rein in the practice.
