It was a masterpiece of british blues metal. There are only a few albums that rise to this level.

This explanation came later. The real story is more silly, like many song title stories.

It wasn't the satanism you're hoping for, so you can go on some righteous rant.

I'd say Led Zeppelin 1 if Good Times, Bad Times wasn't so poppy. Itt's a great song, but it pollutes the rest of the album, which is otherwise perfect.

The song is about Satan falling in love and wanting to be a better person as a result iirc. The original bandmates were Catholic, weren’t they?

I believe they were protestant, but I'm not certain. Christian, though.

I noticed that too, Black Sabbath the first three albums are awesome and a notch above the rest of their later albums

Same with Led Zeppelin their first three albums are awesome, like a notch above the rest of their later albums

Ozzy was a one off legend. Pity he couldn't keep his shit together without that tiny hat Sharon as his very well paid handler.

Dave Brubeck's Time Out is an amazing album, though not metal at all.

I usually include Vol4 in the canon Sabbath as well. Snowblind is one of my favorite Sabbath songs ever, SBS and Sabotage get honorable mentions for the few songs I grew to love as a kid in the 80s on my We Sold Our Soul for Rock and Roll cassette.

A bit more contemporary and slipping genres more, GWAR Scumdogs of the Universe has spectacular musical qualities and continuity.

You wouldn't expect to hear catchy tunes and excellent musicianship, or such tight performances if you judged them from the costumes. The normies assume they're satanists or trying to do something to corrupt the youth, but they were just college music and theatre kids who decided to see what they could get away with, and they made a career of it.
