The truth has been out for a while. If you read some of the JFK papers that dropped there's a letter from an informant who told the CIA about both JFK and MLK assassinations being planned by the Soviets, and the CIA did nothing about either of them because they were in on it too.
CIA knew about Oswald ahead of time, were informed that he had purchased a weapon, but just told the informant "Who cares if Oswald's got a gun?".
Same guy told them about MLK. There's even a part where he's getting frustrated that the CIA isn't doing anything so he tries contacting someone else.

Pretty sure I read about that years ago on /x/ because those files were leaked years ago.
