the name is a contemporary cause of the US Revolutionary War. Basically, The name "Indians" for Native Americans comes from the misnomer of the Spanish explorers attributing the "New World"(Americas) as India while they were searching for a shortcut to India for the spice route.

The British called the lands west of the British colonies on the now eastern coast of the US "Indian Territories" Or "Indian Land" meaning land inhabited by the indigenous people's of the Americas, racially identified as "Indians" due to that previous Spanish explorer's error. Eventually, the very wealthy class of the US went to war with their British friends and defeated them and as they organized the newly acquired land, they left an artifact of that name in the now state of Indiana.
