it's a rip off of Pippi Longstockings, the only children's story Scandinavians know which itself is a rip-off of Alice in Wonderland. her dad is a sailor who disappeared at sea so she is like him but stuck in a small town in Sweden and trying to escape being bored. in Lazytown they put the character is put in some Nickelodeon town but the plot is pretty much the same.

Yes, the guy who made the show is also a complete badass. I personally don't like the show, but it had a great message and Magnus Scheiving is a truly inspiring person.
