If anything it's new money that avoids this place like the plague.
They have all the new money to lose. They got it through business deals and social connections that would cancel them if they ever found out.
But landed gentry? You can't fuck landed gentry out of their inherited 50-year old Land Rover.
You can't fuck them out of land that's been in the family for 5 centuries.
You can't fuck them out of the castle that only they can afford because it doesn't have a mortgage on it.
You can't fuck them out of their clothes. They're already saving money on every single thing they do, and generating a tonne with clever deals that makes other people dependent, not them, like leasing some of that land to a farmer.

Why do you retards like make your worldviews from cartoons? I went to an Ivy. You know what 99% of the student body is like? It’s fucking Asians, affirmative action admits, and insufferable teachers pet middle class social climbers and wannabe tech entrepreneurs. There is no “old money” quasi-aristocrat class filling the ranks of the Ivy League, not anymore than the occasional rich kids going to state flagships anyway.
Besides, old money is a retarded label. In America, the old money were quasi-aristocrat people who made their money owning land and in politics and upper class professions like law when America was still young. By the civil war era, that group was being rapidly replaced by middle class businessmen and had been almost completely replaced by the gilded age. The Roosevelts were notable because they were like the last Boston Brahmin family that derived massive wealth from land. So what even is old money vs new money? Businessmen who made their fortune in the 20th century? What’s the difference really? It’s just stupid.
