I've been making $11 an hour working a 24 hour / week work from home call center job since 2020 after my old factory job got shut down due to the coof. We own our place - small 2 bedroom mobile home on 4 acres in rural Appalachia- so we got only electric, internet/ phone and truck liability insurance to pay monthly. Averages about $160/ month total. Wife's high functioning autistic & gets $965/ month disability. So we bring in about $1800 total per month and groceries/monthly bills run us about $750/ month on the high end.

Depending on where you live/ living situation, minimum wage could be enough to get by on theoretically.

All depends on where you live, cost of living and basic necessities. Here in SE Kentucky most jobs start out at between $7.25 & $8 an hour part time since it's mainly fast food and retail positions. The $11/hr I make at my work from home gig s considered a high paying job locally because we have low cost of living and our local utilities are a fraction of what most areas would charge. My pay hasn't increased in the 5 years I've been doing it because it's a fixed pay independent contractor position. We lucked out having a creek fed pond & deep well that provide our water and we have a septic tank we primarily use for grey water, got an outhouse we shit in except for bad weather and cold winter days.
