The only reasons I can think of are that he's either playing an elaborate game of 5D chess by baiting his opponents into compromising themselves, or he just recently found out that the Epstein files have way more details about his dealings than he thought so he's trying to play for time until the whole topic fades from the public consciousness.

Thing is he was going to release the list (called first batch phase 1, meaning there was a phase 2 which was shelved), but has suddenly backed out. We know Trump isn't a coward so Mossad threatening him is ruled out.

Personally I think Jared Kushner is on the list. Trump is the type to protect family, so I think that's what he's doing. Would also explain why he's also backed off prosecuting Hunter Biden. He's planning to do sweeping pardons on his entire family too now.
