Unidentified object "fell" from the sky in a small town called Yakoruda, Bulgaria.

No one can say for sure what happened and this may end up as an unsolved mystery. At first, scientists had no idea what's going on. They couldn't even take a proper sample of this thing, because the red ball disappeared shortly after the video was filmed. However, they were able to take samples of the soil that came in contact with the red ball. Studies conducted by the Institute of Physical Chemistry at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (БAH) show extremely high levels of iron in the soil and those values are definitely not found under normal terrestrial conditions.

Scientists now claim it could be debris from a Starlink satellite and every news outlet is already using this in their headlines. I'm curious if pol can debunk this. Does space debris actually look like that? I thought debris burns up in the atmosphere and doesn't reach the ground. And even if it did, the red ball is not a solid and it appears to be very soft, no way it can reach the ground intact.

One of the eyewitnesses said this:

Here is one of the detailed explanations with the soil sample they took for testing and how it "proves" to be a satellite.

"The enrichment of the soil with iron and the appearance of the red object that fell from the sky point to iron-containing space debris from an artificial satellite that entered the atmosphere. The object that fell in Yakoruda resembles burnt soot right before disintegration, which appears red due to the reddish-brown color of iron oxides as it breaks down," the Institute of Physical Chemistry explained. "For that reason, it's also likened to metallurgical slag. The end product is ash made up of iron and iron oxides in this case."

According to public sources, Bulgaria was within the potential fall zone of debris from satellite STARLINK-1673, whose controlled reentry was scheduled for July 13, 2025, between 9:19 and 11:19 AM Bulgarian time. However, there is no available data on when or how the satellite’s reentry actually occurred, the institute's report also notes.
