During WW2 they actually had to have reputable careers and contacts and publications they sent their stuff to in the mail.

Cameras and instant communications have become so ubiquitous that 'war correspondents' and 'war photographers' as they existed in WW2 and Vietnam and even Desert Storm barely exist any more.
They just pay some locals to take pictures with their iphone and send them to the news corp via snapchat.
