A taller fighter is not allowed to compete with shorter fighters due to weight restrictions. Because taller people are less frequent, they are also smaller in their relative populations. Not only that, only Light Heavyweight and Heavyweight have a prayer of beating a heavyweight fighter.

Look at strength sports, they have to factor in weight classes and disadvanntage shorter guys because their strength to weight ratio is much higher.
Gymnastics? Short guys.
They also tend to be more resillient and age better.

You can have the best assault rifle in the world, and even one with depleted uranium rounds, but with sufficient fortification, at a certain point the damage is negligible, like shooting an underground bunker with it. Heavyweights do have a smaller talent pool, but they arent less skilled. Brendan Moraeno for instance. Skilled guy. Ufc champion. Commentator, maybe hall of famer. He could punch Derick Lewis all damn day and Derick Lewis would shrug it off like it's nothing. They are fighting at a different fundamental level, and comparing them at all shows the absolute absurdity. All fighters can transition on the ground in the modern UFC. All fighters can clinch against a cage. But mass beats finesse every single time unless you are standard deviations above the same comparable lower weight skill level, and the ability to take a punch from a heavyweight or a light heavyweight renders all offense below that more or less negligble.

To summarize, who cares about technicality. You fight to the level of competition, and in an open weight bout, almost every weightclass but the top few are irrelevant, regardless of percieved skill gaps.
