I'm not whatever a marxist is, but the entire reason Germany got btfo in the east is that western Europe was full of fled White Russians who spread lies about the state of the union, downplaying its strength and production capacity in an attempt to encourage an invasion to get their shit back. German intel, mostly relying on said bullshit, underestimated USSR by a factor of 5 or something like that. In fact, the German offensive was twice as effective as what was supposed to steamroll the USSR and they barely put a dent in them.

WWII was an imperialist war just like WWI. America wasn’t interested in fighting Germany on the basis of them being fascists. America joined to help their European imperial allies against Germany, which was getting too big for its britches. And they helped Russia once Germany invaded, because two fronts are better than one.
The US went right back to being anticommunist and even crypto-fascist after the war.
