Now that we know the world formed naturally over billions of years, and organisms evolved over time into their present forms, gods are not needed to explain anything, and they never were, or ever did.

Humanity is thankfully growing up.

Eventually gods became abstract representations of the peoples that worshiped them.
If you're going to worship a god, just cut out the illusory middle-man and worship your people directly.

Not believing in God is hobbling yourself spiritually.
You see, since no one can prove or disprove God you can choose to believe or disbelieve in God.
Belief in God can be cultivated to the point where you feel richer than the richest person on earth purely off psychological benefits, even with zero real world evidence.
However disbelief can only every give you nothing regardless of whether God exists or not.
So, since the truth about God can't be known, you owe it to yourself to cultivate faith otherwise you're trading a treasure of infinite worth for nothing but absurdism and nihilism.
This isn't merely pascal's wager, this is true even if God objectively doesn't exist.

the fun ones had stories of overcoming hardships and such which is still useful to pass on to people in a fatherless society, the fantasy aspect is an easy way to get bland individuals to latch onto

Religion is an evolutionary adaptation though. It's one of natures methods for building social cohesion. The claim of a literal creator may not be true, but the strict adheremce to a common code driven by a religious impulse is absolutely necessary for a society and ideology to survive. And no secular movement has anything to replace that, they don't even realise they are missing something.
