>>511300591 (OP) He has a degree in engineering and I believe he started from the bottom working with atoms then was promoted to supervisor off a fluke I believe, there was a whole episode about it. Homer isn't completely retarded, he's retarded for a nuclear engineer but he still is one.
>>511300591 (OP) Homer was paid well as the safety manager of the plant. He was picked because he was a retard who would never actually enforce safety standards, therefore saving Burns $$$. He would also be easy to throw under the bus given his mental capacities, which I expect Burns would do in an instant if something ever went horribly wrong.
>>511300591 (OP) Homer Simpson isn't real he's a character on an animated television show. In the fictional show he had a high-paying job as the "safety inspector" for a corrupt nuclear power plant owner. He was given that job because he was a dumbass who wouldn't cause any problems.
>>511300591 (OP) They were barely affording it because he was making $12/hr at his make work position. The only reason they were even able to get into the house in the first place is because they sold his father Abe's home and took most of that cash as a sizable downpayment on their new home, the rest of the money was spent putting Abe into a shitty retirement home. In universe their living situation was the result of a lot of luck and scammery selling their parent down the river for their own benefit.
Oh I almost forgot CRAM IT

>>511300677 The real tragedy of this episode is that it wasn't serious enough. The dude was correct and the takeaway should have been for Homer to acknowledge how good he has it and dispel the myth of him being a loser underdog.

It's impressive how you guys watch both more and less of the show than /tv/. You all somehow got multiple parts of his job and/or circumstances at said job incorrect in your own unique way, pretty impressive. >>511300591 (OP) Don't really know why there haven't been massive throes for techbros to unionize especially with the advent of AI, would make sense to me if they could manage to stop undercutting one ano- >jobs flooded with h1b kikery Oh, right.

>>511301165 The show, while debuting in the 90's, reflects life on easy mode that boomers experienced. You are seeing a show written from the perspective of Gen X about what they saw as the average boomer lifestyle. It was lagging culturally because it was trying to kill off what remained to open the door for the current hellscape we have the pleasure of enjoying today. Did this think at the time it would be like this? Probably not

>>511300591 (OP) >reactor operator You think that's a common job?
I do something very similar to Homer in a nuclear plant on a bit smaller scale and I can say by the far the most accurate part of his portrayal of the job is that he sleeps all day, everyone in nuclear plants just fucking sleeps all the time. You walk behind some big pipes and you see a custom bed made of out cleaning materials. You walk behind a concrete pillar in the basement and there is a chair and bucket to put your feet up, once I saw at least 15 people sleeping in one area.
