Boomers didn't have drunk driving penalties. Least not in the same ballpark as we do today.
That means they had no reason not to live in some suburb where you drive everywhere, because it was no biggie to go have five drinks at a bar then drive home.
They pulled the rug on that, probably for the best.
But it also meant now you had a generation stuck out in the suburbs/rural areas who desperately want to live somewhere they can go to a bar and have a third place.
Simultaneously, wealthy retired boomers now buy up all the real estate in nice walkable towns (see Portsmouth NH, or Savannah GA).
This means everything that's walkable is sky-rocketing in price, and yougner generations have to resort to shittier and shittier places.
