Writing off the debt costs nothing and suppresses inflation, which is something our dear real estate mogul doesn't want (his kids and jewish grandkids would suffer if inflation went down since all their value is in assets). Absolutely not, you think those banks are just happy at losing a revenue stream? The fed will bail out the banks to a certain amount which will increase monetary supply and thus inflation. This isn't rocket science and its happened before.
